Job Title
Shipping Clerk

Essential Function
Using established tools and equipment, stage and load all store orders according to designated trailer, and in the sequence in which they are to be loaded, utilizing lift equipment, in a timely manner, and in accordance with Company standard operating procedures. Responsible for properly identifying and separating all store orders to ensure their timely arrival at their assigned destination.

Primary Duties

Load trucks with available equipment (35%).

Wrap and weigh pallets (25%).

Ensure cartons are stacked safely: light cartons on top of heavy; keep accurate tally for Bill of Lading; combine store orders into as few pallets as possible; keep all orders separate (15%).

Stage and load all store orders according to freight lines and sequence, maintain accurate productivity records (10%).

Maintain good housekeeping practices; assist in clearing conveyor, secure dock doors and gates (10%).

Maintain a safe work environment, perform tasks safely, report hazards (5%).

Education
High school diploma or equivalent. Must meet or exceed the Standard Math Proficiency Score on the basic math test for addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

Experience
Prior power‑lift equipment experience is preferred. Must be able to become certified through the Sally Beauty Fork Lift Training Program within the timeframe specified by management to operate all powered equipment used for the job.

Skills

Speak, read and write English.

Maintain neat and accurate records.

Physically able to stack cartons and wrap pallets for extended periods of time.

Perform all duties of lesser job grades.

Competencies / Attributes
Lift and set down cartons weighing up to 50 pounds from floor level for 3‑5 hours per day, occasionally lift from floor level to head; carry cartons weighing up to 50 pounds up to 10 feet for 3‑5 hours per day; stand and/or walk 6‑8 hours per day; see and read labels on products, containers and packages; work in temperatures ranging from 25 °F to 105 °F; may be exposed to fumes; visual ability to read and understand letters, words, and numbers on CRT; adequate hearing to hear warnings from powered vehicles and personnel.

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements
The work involves moderate risks or discomforts requiring special safety precautions, e.g., moving parts, carts, machines; exposure to irritant chemicals. Employees may be required to wear protective clothing or gear such as masks, gowns, coats, boots, goggles, gloves, or shields. The work requires considerable and strenuous physical exertion, including frequent climbing of tall ladders, lifting heavy objects over 50 pounds, crouching or crawling, and other strenuous exertions.
