Shipping Clerk
Using established tools and equipment, stage and load all store orders according to designated trailer, and in the sequence in which they are to be loaded, utilizing lift equipment, in a timely manner, and in accordance with Company standard operating procedures. Responsible for properly identifying and separating all store orders to ensure their timely arrival at their assigned destination.
Primary Duties
35% Load trucks with the available equipment.
25% Wrap and weigh pallets
15% Ensure that cartons are stacked in a manner that will ensure safe, damage-free shipments to the respective stores. Light cartons must be stacked on top of heavy cartons. Keep accurate carton and pallet tally for Bill of Lading purposes for all store orders. Combine store orders into as few pallets as possible. Keep all store orders separate.
10% Stage/load all store orders according to the freight lines and in the sequence in which they are to be loaded. Maintain accurate productivity records.
10% Maintain good housekeeping practices in work areas. If requested by the Supervisor, assist in keeping the conveyor clear at all times to enhance the efficiency of the case pullers. Secure the dock doors and security gates when they are not in use. Perform all other duties as requested by management.
5% Maintain a safe work environment, perform job functions in a safe manner, and report any potential job hazards to management.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
EDUCATION:
High school diploma or the equivalent. Must meet or exceed the Standard Math Proficiency Score on the basic math test for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
EXPERIENCE:
Prior power-lift equipment experience is preferred. Must be able to become certified through the Sally Beauty Fork Lift Training Program within the timeframe specified by management, to operate all powered equipment used for the respective job position at the distribution center.
SKILLS:
Must be able to speak, read and write the English language. Must be able to maintain neat and accurate records. Must be physically able to stack cartons and wrap pallets for extended periods of time. Must know and be able to perform all of the duties of lesser job grades.
Competencies / Attributes
Lift and set down cartons weighing up to 50 pounds from floor level 3-5 hours per day (occasionally lift from floor level to head. Carry cartons weighing up to 50 pounds up to 10 feet 3-5 hours per day. Standing and/or walking for 6-8 hours per day. See and read labels on products, product containers and packages. Must be able to work in temperatures ranging from 25 degrees Fahrenheit to 105 degrees Fahrenheit. May be exposed to fumes and order upon occasion. Visual ability must have accurate depth perception. Must have adequate hearing to hear warnings from powered vehicles in the area and warnings shouted from personnel in the immediate area. Visual ability to read and understand letters, words and numbers on CRT screen.

Working Conditions /Physical Requirements
The work involves moderate risks or discomforts, which require special safety precautions, e.g., working around moving parts, carts, or machines; with irritant chemicals; etc. Employees may be required to use protective clothing or gear such as masks, gowns, coats, boots, goggles, gloves, or shields.
The work requires considerable and strenuous physical exertion such as frequent climbing of tall ladders; lifting heavy objects over 50 pounds, crouching or crawling or strenuous physical exertion.
