Scope Of Responsibility
The Equipment Operator will safely maneuver large, awkward steel loads by forklifts, and perform all functions in both the receiving and shipping departments. This position will unload 18-wheeler trucks and load galvanized product onto 18-wheeler trucks, build loads of galvanized steel, inspect incoming materials and maintain thorough and accurate documentation while regularly communicating with the appropriate personnel.
Essential Duties
Safely operate heavy equipment, such as the large Taylor forklift, in shipping and/or receiving area. Safely unload incoming 18-wheeler trucks (shipping) and load 18-wheeler trucks with outgoing shipments
Monitor & maintain inventory, perform physical counts of steel products and report actual inventory to reports
Prepare shipments by organizing materials and building loads
Inspect all incoming and outgoing shipments of materials to ensure accuracy and maintain all necessary documentation by recording all shipped materials with proper identification
Ensure no damaged materials are received or shipped without properly identifying the damage and notifying the proper personnel
Communicates the status of material and shipping paperwork to the appropriate personnel
Properly inspect all equipment prior to use
Read work orders or receive oral instructions to determine work assignments or material or equipment needs
Follow established housekeeping standards
Additional duties as assigned by Supervisor and/or Management
Position Requirements
Forklift experience is required
Speak, read and legibly write in English
Excellent attention to detail and strong ability to multi-task
Uses good judgment, follow instructions and have good problem-solving abilities
Regular and timely attendance is required
Inventory experience highly preferred
High School diploma or GED equivalent preferred
Physical Requirements
Heavy work. Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 75 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 50 pounds of force constantly to move objects
Must be able to perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs and moving entire body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, tugging, stooping, bending, twisting, crawling and handling of materials.
Position requires manual dexterity, ability to pick/pinch and work with fingers, repetitive motions of wrists/hands/finger, arm-hand steadiness and a safety-minded individual.
Effectively and safely utilizes ladders, manlifts, forklifts, etc. Ascend or descend ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms.
Must be able to work in an open environment for long shifts (including weekends) exposed to extreme temperatures, standing entire shift
Must have the ability to concentrate on tasks for long periods of time and be able to observe and receive information from all relevant sources
Visual acuity to perform visual inspection involving small defects, small parts and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication parts at distances close to the eyes
