Overview

Reports to the Chief Financial Officer | Full-Time, Exempt
The Controller is responsible for the integrity, accuracy, and discipline of the Club’s financial operations, including full ownership of the general ledger and underlying accounting processes. This role oversees all day-to-day accounting functions, ensuring timely and precise financial reporting while maintaining a strong system of internal controls.
In addition to technical expertise, the Controller will serve as a thoughtful and forward-looking partner to the CFO, helping to execute the Club’s financial vision. This includes strengthening processes and thoughtfully transitioning the accounting function from manual, legacy workflows to a more modern, efficient, and scalable infrastructure. The Club operates on ClubEssential, and the Controller will play a key role in optimizing its use and deepening system integration across departments.

With 1,115 total members — including 415 Golf Members, 565 Social Members, and 135 Other Memberships — Happy Hollow is a thriving and engaged community with a strong multi-generational presence. The Club’s average membership age is 62, and its diverse membership shares a common appreciation for excellence, tradition, and camaraderie.
Happy Hollow generates more than $17.2 million in annual revenue and operates as a 501(c)(7) private, member-owned club, governed by an elected Board of Directors and supported by an accomplished professional leadership team. The Club’s initiation fee is $35,000 with annual dues of $11,100.
The centerpiece of Happy Hollow is its 18-hole championship golf course and 3-hole short course, supported by a premier practice facility, an entertainment simulator studio for golf members, and a comprehensive instructional program. Members play approximately 16,128 member rounds and 3,352 guest rounds annually, supported by a robust calendar of competitive, social, and instructional programming. Merchandise sales exceed $1.57 million annually, underscoring a sophisticated and active golf culture.
Happy Hollow offers a broad range of first-class amenities, including exceptional dining venues and an Activity Center featuring fitness and aquatics facilities, five tennis courts, and two pickleball courts covered by a dome from October through May. The Activity Center was built and opened in 2020. With a deep respect for its storied past and an ambitious vision for its future, Happy Hollow continues to set the standard for premier private club experiences in the region.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Lead a disciplined and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual close process, including preparation of accurate financial statements and supporting reports
Own the integrity, structure, and maintenance of the general ledger, ensuring all financial activity is properly recorded, classified, and supported
Oversee core accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and daily cash management
Maintain strong visibility into cash position and ensure revenues and disbursements are accurately recorded, deposited, controlled, and reconciled
Oversee member billing, dues, assessments, and collections with a high level of accuracy, discretion, and service, creating a connection with HHC membership
Serve as a financial point of contact for members, responding to questions regarding statements, charges, and account activity in a professional and service-oriented manner
Establish and uphold a strong internal control environment across all areas of the Club
Ensure compliance with GAAP, tax requirements, and internal policies, and maintain accounting policies and procedures accordingly
Support and coordinate external audits and support all audit and tax-related processes
Monitor labor costs and oversee payroll processing for a diverse workforce, including seasonal staff
Support the CFO in budgeting and forecasting
Maintain fixed asset records and ensure accurate accounting and reporting of capital investments
Partner with the CFO to identify and prioritize process improvement opportunities, with a focus on reducing manual workflows, strengthening data integrity, and making better use of ClubEssential and related systems
Part of a small finance team; supervisory responsibilities may develop as the role and function grow
QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
5–10+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within a private club, hospitality, or similar environment
Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting standards
Experience in member-based or dues-driven organizations preferred
Advanced proficiency in accounting systems and Microsoft Excel
CPA or CMA designation preferred
This is a full-time, exempt salaried position. Compensation is competitive and commensurate with experience.
