Overview

As an Information Technology (IT) Specialist in the Federal government, you perform duties related to the installation and configuration of computer hardware, software, operating systems, networks, applications, printers and scanners; provide technical support and troubleshooting; assist with maintenance of computer systems and networks; and ensure application of appropriate IT security measures.
Responsibilities

Perform routine and recurring assignments involved in installing and configuring computer hardware, software, operating systems, networks, applications, and printers and scanners.
Monitor, maintain, and update computer systems, networks, and applications; diagnose recurring network problems and service interruptions.
Assist users with IT-related issues, including hardware and software troubleshooting; provide solutions to ensure optimal system performance.
Perform routine IT system security duties in support of the IT security program and protection of IT assets against unauthorized, accidental, or deliberate modification, disclosure, and destruction of data.
Utilize approved AI-enabled tools to assist with research, information gathering, and preparation of routine written materials in support of program activities.
Qualifications and Specialized Experience

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Under the updated Competency-Based Qualification Standard for the IT Management Series (2210), applicants must meet the minimum proficiency level for the GS-09 and/or GS-11 grade(s) and have the required specialized experience.
GS-09: Specialized experience includes IT system security duties in support of the IT security program and installing or configuring computer hardware, software, operating systems, networks, applications, printers, or scanners.
GS-11: Specialized experience includes assessing risk factors for vulnerability to attack to protect IT systems and applications; providing technical guidance in design, coding, testing, and debugging processes; and using AI-enabled tools to support research, data review, or preparation of reports, summaries, or materials.
