Duties/Responsibilities
Detailing
Clean inside of buses to include sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, and wiping down of windows and sanitize passenger and driver areas.
Make special preparations for detailing Special Event Buses and address special cleaning needs.
Scrub the rear of bus prior to entering automatic bus wash.
Drive bus through Automatic Bus Wash to clean exterior.
Percentage of time:

Fueling
Move buses in and around the bus depot as needed for fueling and charging purposes (only operate bus on the bus depot-Yard Dog).
Performs diesel fueling operations using a fast-connect fuel dispenser.
Dispense Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF).
Plug in and monitor electric bus charging.
Percentage of time:

General
Keep track of buses coming off route and ensures they are cleaned and fueled before going back into service.
Report interior and exterior damage to maintenance staff.
Inspect for and cleans graffiti from interior and exterior.
Conform to safety standards, as prescribed.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Position Summary
The Maintenance Assistant performs semi-skilled tasks on the transit bus fleet at the University of Georgia. Duties include fueling Diesel buses, dispensing Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF), plugging in and monitoring electric buses, cleaning buses, and performing basic cleaning maintenance. Duties performed are primarily outside in surrounding compound or in bus yard with exposure to all weather types and conditions.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
Ability to work in adverse climates.
Possess a valid driver’s license.
Ability to work with solvents, detergents, and adhesives.
Ability to perform cleaning of large vehicles.
Ability to work independently.
Ability to work cooperatively with employees.
Ability to recognize and report hazards and apply safe work methods.
Possess physical and mental stamina commensurate with the responsibilities of the position.
Physical Demands
Walking, occasional balancing, standing, pushing, pulling, bending, twisting, kneeling, stooping, crouching, reaching, handling, and repetitive fine motor activities. Climb steps and curbing constantly.
