What You Will Do
GFT is seeking an Asset Management and Maintenance Technician (AMM Tech) to join our Transportation Team in Charlotte, Raleigh, and Asheville offices. This role follows an onsite work model, requiring regular attendance at our listed offices.

What You’ll Be Challenged To Do
As an AMM Tech you will assist public and private agencies with various asset management activities, including pavement condition assessments, storm drainage assessments, maintenance inspections, response to natural disasters, and other tasks for our project partners.

Responsibilities

Lead and manage projects.

Use knowledge of NCDOT Operations & Maintenance procedures.

Read and understand NCDOT maintenance contracts and interpret them for the project team.

Answer inquiries and complaints from Project Manager; communicate and resolve solutions in the field with personnel, contractors, municipalities, and the public.

Use tools of the trade and train subordinates in their use.

Obtain accurate measurements, report project progress in an Inspector’s Daily Report, and train subordinate team members.

Setup project pay records and train subordinate technicians.

Identify problems to contractor and project manager, keeping the project manager informed of progress.

Follow specific instructions independently.

Apply basic math skills to compute quantities and costs.

Interpret and implement company mandated safety policies.

Lead safety meetings on a regular basis.

Operate a level; understand cut and fills and elevations for highway grades.

Perform project‑specific quality control tasks as defined in the quality control manual.

Mentor and train subordinate technicians.

Comply with applicable federal, state and local laws, regulations, ordinances and other orders, and all company policies, procedures and directives from supervisors.

Perform other duties as required or requested by management; attend meetings related to operations projects.

Physical/Mental Demands

Talk, hear, use hands and fingers; stoop, kneel, crouch, and reach.

Lift, push or pull up to 25 pounds daily.

Traverse uneven terrain.

Operate computer and tablet.

Working Conditions

Work outdoors 95% of the time.

Moderate noise level.

Travel via automobile daily.

What You’ll Bring To Our Firm

For Technician Levels III and IV: two‑year technical degree with Civil Engineering Technology or Surveying Technology plus two years of progressive transportation/construction technician experience, or a high school diploma and four years of transportation experience, or an equivalent combination of training and directly related experience.

For Technician Levels I and II: high school diploma and one year of experience in a related field.

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure; compute rate, ratio, and percent; draw and interpret bar graphs.

Understand construction surveying procedures and principles.

Valid driver’s license in state of residence.

Engage multiple perspectives when solving problems; seek peer learning and encourage reciprocal learning.

Compensation
Technician Level I‑II: $23.00‑35.00 per hour. Technician Level III‑IV: $27.00‑44.00 per hour. Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location.
