Job Description

We are looking for Child Support Technicians (CSTs) to perform case initiation, docket coordination, legal support, and other technical support and assistance work. CSTs may assist in training others and provide a high level of customer service at all times. CSTs gain valuable legal support experience and are part of a collegial team dedicated to supporting Texas children and families.
Responsibilities

Open cases on the Children's Are My Priority system (ChAMP), check for duplicate cases, assess cases to determine case type, validity and completeness of information, request missing information or documents, and forward cases to the appropriate Child Support Officer (CSO).
Prepare cases for court, which may include filing pleadings, setting cases on docket, monitoring service, and attending court as needed.
Coordinate, schedule, and monitor paternity tests; process and distribute test results.
May serve as a Notary Public.
Enter, retrieve, and update child support case information on the ChAMP system.
Monitor the ChAMP system and other computer databases to identify new or updated locate information.
Verify locate and employment information using all available sources.
Perform money-handling duties to process child support payments.
Prepare routine or periodic reports.
Research court orders.
Respond to routine telephone inquiries concerning child support cases.
Open, sort, and distribute incoming mail and documents.
Assist with conducting seminars and interviewing custodial parents to gather additional information about absent parents.
Scan and index documents.
Review and maintain child support virtual files for accuracy in the Enterprise Content Management (ECM) repository.
Perform related work as assigned.
Maintain relevant knowledge necessary to perform essential job functions.
Attend work regularly in compliance with the agreed-upon work schedule.
Ensure security and confidentiality of sensitive and/or protected information.
Comply with all agency policies and procedures, including those pertaining to ethics and integrity.
Qualifications

Child Support Technician I (CST I)
Education: High school graduation or equivalent.
Education: Two years (sixty credit hours) from an accredited college or university; experience in the following or related fields may be substituted on a year-for-year basis: Child Support Program, complex clerical, customer service, secretarial.
Skills: Computer skill for word processing and data entry/retrieval; handle multiple tasks, prioritize, and meet deadlines; effective oral and written communication; effective judgment and decision making; receive and respond to constructive feedback; work cooperatively with others in a professional office environment; provide excellent customer service.
Functional: Ability to work in-person at assigned OAG work location and perform all assigned tasks at designated OAG workspace throughout the work week (unless on approved leave).
Ability to arrange for personal transportation for business-related travel.
Ability to work more than 40 hours as needed and in compliance with the FLSA.
Ability to lift and relocate 30 lbs.
Ability to travel (including overnight travel) up to 5%.
Typing speed: 40 words per minute (typing test required at interview).
Child Support Technician II (CST II)
All the above minimum qualifications for CST I, plus two years full-time experience in the following or related fields: Child Support Program, complex clerical, customer service, secretarial.
Child Support Technician III (CST III)
All the above minimum qualifications for CST II, plus one additional year of full-time experience in the above or related fields; one year Child Support Program experience required for Team Lead positions.
Preferred Qualifications

Proper use of punctuation, sentence structure, grammar, and spelling.
Ability to proficiently read, write, and speak Spanish.
