Job Responsibilities

Department of Motor Vehicles is looking for a License Examiner in Rock Hill, SC. The role ensures excellent customer service, teamwork, and commitment to public service.
Key duties include:
Administer road test examinations for all vehicle classes.
Determine applicants’ physical and mental fitness and competency to operate motor vehicles.
Administer written, oral, and automated examinations to assess knowledge of laws and driving procedures.
Perform pre‑trip inspections of applicant‑operated vehicles.
Examine, accept, prepare, enter, and print all documents required for issuing driver licenses, beginner permits, and identification cards for all classes.
Process motor vehicle registration requests, research suspension inquiries, modify registration credentials, and issue automobile dealership licenses.
Answer customer inquiries regarding driver, vehicle, and registration, titling, and insurance requirements by phone and in person.
Greet and direct customers to appropriate areas in the office.
Collect fees and donations for the Donate Life Fund, reconcile daily reports, and prepare refund requests.
Compute vehicle sales taxes and adjust vehicle records.
Receive, code, and issue receipts for surrendered license plates, box plates, and complete pick‑up requests.
Perform routine maintenance on equipment.
Fax, mail documents, and run errands, such as trips to the post office and bank deposits.
Working Conditions

Road tests are conducted throughout the year in various weather conditions, starting early in the morning and continuing through the early evening.
Minimum Requirements

High school diploma.
Agency Requirements

Valid South Carolina driver’s license and at least 21 years of age with one year of driving experience.
Nationwide criminal background check with finger‑printing.
For CDL knowledge skill tests: formal CDL test examiner trainer course and examination covering Introduction to CDL Licensing System, Overview of CDL Tests, and Knowledge Tests.
Additional Requirements

Professional communication skills with internal and external customers.
Thorough knowledge of driver licensing eligibility requirements and DMV organizational competencies.
Ability to assess skills and abilities of applicants for all driver license classes via road demonstration testing.
Work in a climate‑controlled office but also outdoors on the road; tasks may involve prolonged sitting, standing, walking, and constant talking.
Exposure to warm or cold temperatures and processing chemicals used in driver’s license development.
Possible relocation to an office within 30 miles of home office if business needs require.
Position located in a Tier Three office.
