Overview
Performs paraprofessional work to administer road examinations to applicants for all classes of driver’s licenses; administers and grades written driver examinations; performs cashier functions for driver’s license and/or motor vehicle fees; reviews and completes motor vehicle title and registration applications.
Responsibilities
Administers road examinations and serves as information clerk to the public.
Grades written driver examinations, performs vision tests, and operates photographic equipment.
Performs cashier functions, balances cash/checks, prepares deposit records, and reports to supervisor.
Reviews and completes motor vehicle title and registration applications, ensuring all required attachments and fees.
Performs other duties as required or assigned.
Education and Experience
Equivalent to completion of eight years elementary school and two years of general office experience, preferably including one year in a driver or motor vehicle facility and operation of keyboard equipment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Working knowledge of business English, spelling, and commercial arithmetic.
Knowledge of office methods, practices, and procedures.
Basic knowledge of the Illinois Vehicle Code related to driver’s license processing.
Basic bookkeeping procedures and ability to maintain moderately complex records.
Effective communication with the general public and colleagues.
Independent work within defined procedures.
Valid Illinois driver’s license.
Physical ability to lift/carry 0‑25 lbs and travel to other facilities or mobile locations.
