
Youth Pastor: Christ United Jackson

The Youth Pastor is responsible for connecting youth into the life and family of Christ United church. The primary objective of Youth Ministry at Christ United church is to make disciples of Jesus Christ by creating discipleship environments that provide students with the tools, adult mentors, and spiritual training they need for spiritual growth and belonging.
These discipleship environments occur in three primary areas:
Equipping Discipleship, Relational Discipleship,
and
Serving Discipleship.
This is a full‑time, salaried exempt position requiring approximately 40-50 hours per week and reports to the Leadership Development Director.
Specific Roles/Responsibilities
Overseeing the development and implementation of the Confirmation Journey
Teach and Preach on a weekly basis for 6‑12th grade audience
Recruiting, developing, and leading teachers and mentors
Developing additional discipleship opportunities as needed and able
Creating and managing systems for registration, attendance, and follow‑up
Overseeing group structure, classroom logistics, and space utilization
Ensuring clear and consistent communication with students, parents, and leaders
Maintaining a forward‑looking (six‑month) ministry schedule
Participating regularly in relational ministry with students, parents, and leaders including High School and Middle School campus ministry and events
Developing meaningful Christian relationships and accountability
Learning to articulate and process their spiritual journey
Establishing personal worship practices and spiritual habits
Growing in identity as children of God
Developing theologically sound teaching and discipleship strategies
Addressing adolescent development and cultural influences
Leading at least one student camp and mission trip per calendar year
Cultivating local opportunities for student missions
Training and equipping leaders, mentors, and parents
Raising up and mentoring student leaders
Overseeing retreats and relational ministry environments
Establishing systems for pastoral care and follow‑up
Ensuring consistent and effective communication with families and leaders
High School Ministry Leadership
Lead and oversee discipleship environments for grades 9–12
Ensure alignment with overall relational discipleship goals
Provide teaching, vision, and pastoral leadership for high school students
Create and Lead High School Leadership Track
General Youth Ministry Responsibilities
Collaborate with staff and volunteers to create engaging ministry environments, programs, retreats, and events
Engage students outside church walls (school visits, extracurricular events, etc.)
Communicate regularly with students, parents, and volunteers
Preach in both middle school and high school settings
Lead or support small groups
Participate in church‑wide and youth ministry meetings, retreats, and events
Continue developing professionally and spiritually
Position Qualifications
Demonstrated spiritual maturity, with a consistent and growing personal relationship with Jesus Christ
A lifestyle that serves as a Christ‑centered role model for students, demonstrating integrity, character, and conduct consistent with biblical standards
A commitment to ongoing spiritual growth and personal discipleship through regular engagement in Scripture, prayer, and Christian community
A strong commitment to the Christian faith and a willingness to embrace and teach the theology of Christ United Church
A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four‑year college or university
Demonstrated ability to lead, disciple, and develop youth and adult volunteers
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Organizational and leadership ability in ministry settings
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Ability to meet physical demands of the role (light lifting, standing, movement, etc.)
Ability and willingness to travel locally, regionally, and occasionally nationally/internationally
Familiarity with adolescent development, youth culture, and family ministry
