Position Summary
Two part‑time student workers will help maintain experimental trees in the field and research greenhouses, and assist with general upkeep and running of a plant research laboratory. One position is on main campus and the other is in Whitehall forest.
Key Responsibilities
Routine maintenance in greenhouse (washing glassware, plant tissue processing and disposal, stocking supplies, general cleaning, etc.). 50% of time.
Plant care (watering, scouting for pests, applying fertilizer, etc.). 25% of time.
Assisting on other research projects as needed. 25% of time.
On‑campus tasks: watering plants daily, washing plant pots and trays, plant tissue processing and disposal, stocking supplies, general cleaning, preparation of common reagents, pest monitoring and control, and weeding.
Off‑campus tasks: inspecting, weeding, trimming and maintaining experimental plants, applying biocontrol and fertilizer, and assisting with greenhouse maintenance (cleaning, composting, watering). Requires driving to Whitehall location.
Schedule
Preferred schedule: 2–3 hours per day, 5 days per week, plus at least one weekend shift per month for on‑campus. Off‑campus: 3 hours per day, 3–5 days per week, plus at least one weekend shift (2–4 pm) per month.
Minimum Qualifications
Enrolled in Biology, Plant Biology, Ecology, Forestry or related science majors.
Coursework in biology or chemistry and previous lab and/or plant care experience is a plus.
Ability to follow complex instructions, work independently, organizational skills, attention to detail, precision, self‑awareness and manual delicacy.
Physical ability to lift 50 lbs.
Off‑campus position requires a Georgia driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Valid driver’s license (required for off‑campus position).
Background Check
