Position Summary
This Research Professional position works as part of a dynamic team and will perform tasks in the laboratory, greenhouse, and office to support a plant genomics research laboratory. The Research Professional will prepare culture media, reagents, buffers, and other solutions; perform tissue culture and maintain plant collections; conduct genetics, genomics, and molecular biology work; and supervise undergraduate students.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a related field of science
Preferred Qualifications
Master of Science in Plant Breeding, Genetics, and Genomics
Experience in laboratory, greenhouse, and aseptic technique
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies
Knowledge of basic plant life cycle and genetics
Knowledge of basic laboratory techniques
Knowledge of lab protocols and equipment
Knowledge of genetics, genomics, and molecular biology
Demonstrated ability to understand and implement in-depth knowledge on subject matter
Demonstrated critical assessment skills
Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills
Ability to follow protocols
Bioinformatics and computational skills
Strong organizational skills, basic computer skills (Word, Excel, etc.), and ability to effectively communicate and multitask
Ability to be meticulous, punctual, and reliable

Duties and Responsibilities
Laboratory Duties
Conduct and analyze experiments in the laboratory
Isolate nucleic acids
Construct next‑generation sequencing libraries
Sequence DNA/RNA
Perform molecular biology and gene editing
Plant tissue culture
Prepare solutions and media
Maintain a clean and sterile lab environment
Perform bioinformatic analysis and interpret research sequence data
Determine next steps of analysis based on results obtained
Percentage of time: 70%
Greenhouse Duties
Maintain plant collections in vitro, growth chamber, and greenhouse
Operate research greenhouses and growth chambers: planting, maintaining, harvesting, collecting material for experiments, performing crosses, mixing soil, filling pots, cleaning facilities
Percentage of time: 15%
Administrative Duties
Data entry
Order basic chemicals/reagents, fertilizers, pots, and other basic supplies
Stock and inventory supplies
Assist with administrative duties such as package shipping and receiving, mail retrieval, answering phones
Percentage of time: 15%
Physical Demands
Lift 50 lbs assisted and unassisted
Work in greenhouse in varying temperatures
