
Project Finance Analyst

Overview
The Project Financial Analyst ensures the accuracy and integrity of project financials by managing billing, tracking costs, monitoring cost versus budgets, and preparing timely, detailed financial reports. This role works closely with the Project Controller, project managers, and other stakeholders to maintain up-to-date forecasts, analyze variances, and provide actionable insights to support decision‑making. The position supports project teams in training and utilizing tools for improving project efficiency and acts as a support arm for other stakeholders in the company, including ERP and expense management software.
What You’ll Do
Prepare, maintain, and analyze project budgets, forecasts, and variance reports.
Monitor project costs and expenditures, ensuring alignment with budgetary constraints and timely identification of discrepancies.
Manage billing, accounts receivable, and support collection efforts for assigned projects.
Ensure accuracy and completeness of financial documentation, including journal entries, change orders (CORs), purchase orders (POs), subcontractor POs, and certificates of insurance (COIs).
Reconcile project‑related accounts and support monthly and quarterly financial close processes, including data submission and variance analysis.
Generate and analyze financial reports for project managers and stakeholders, providing clear insights on project performance, profitability, and cash flow.
Provide reliable data inputs for project forecasting and monitor key metrics such as revenue, cost of goods sold (COGS), and gross margin.
Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting policies, and industry regulations; help identify and elevate financial risks or discrepancies.
Assist in audits by preparing necessary documentation and supporting reviews.
Collaborate with project managers and teams to understand financial requirements, project timelines, and provide financial guidance.
Identify opportunities for process improvements in accounting practices and contribute to SOP and process documentation.
Support training and utilization of financial tools for project teams and other stakeholders.
Stay updated on industry trends and best practices in project accounting.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
Minimum 2 years of relevant accounting experience in a construction or project‑based environment.
Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., ERP systems) and Microsoft Excel.
Strong analytical skills with attention to detail.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
Individual problem‑solving skills; able to independently resolve issues and present viable solutions.
Agility and ability to think on their feet, developing innovative ideas around reporting and financial management.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with job costing and project management accounting.
Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central.
