General Description
The Architectural/Interior Design Specialist is responsible for tracking usage of spaces and maintaining current and accurate floor plans. Under the supervision of the Manager this position will assist with various space planning projects, surveys and inventory activities such as floor plan verification, existing furniture surveys, room finishes and existing conditions among others. The Architectural/Interior Design Assistant will be working with the Manager on coordination, planning, specification, procurement and installation of FF/E, fixtures, furnishings and equipment for College capital and non-capital projects.
Duties And Tasks
Manage small scale projects that include space planning, test fits, move coordination and furniture selection. Assist Project Management team on these same areas with large-scale projects.
Assist Project Managers in the development, design, and construction phases of the projects.
Assist in the development of scopes of work based on client requests.
Travel to the different campuses for surveys.
Use AutoCAD and Revit for floor plan updates, layout and test fits for offices and classrooms.
Create and update miscellaneous plans, such as evacuation maps, safety maps, campus maps, etc.
Create spreadsheets for documenting finishes and furniture on spaces surveyed.
Work with manager to create and document finish and furniture standards for the college.
Selection of interior finishes as well as FF&E
Create furniture specification sheets and request furniture vendor quotes.
Work with college to assess life-cycle furniture replacement needs and plan for their replacement. Coordinate the surplus and/or reuse of old furniture.
Maintain the resource library and work with architectural finish reps to schedule library updates.
Support moves planning and on-site move coordination on projects.
Special Assignments
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
KSAs / Required Qualifications
Ability to analyze, interpret and modify architectural drawings.
Able to interact with staff to collect data, organize and prioritize information.
Demonstrated ability to prepare findings, reports or schedules under critical time constraints.
Demonstrated project skill including attention to detail in managing project work and creating accurate drawings and documentation.
Skilled using programs such as MS Office Suite, including Excel and Project.
Must have good computer skills.
Highly organized, detail-oriented and have the ability to multi-task.
Considerable skills in using Revit as a drafting tool.
Possess strong interpersonal skills such as written and verbal communication, problem-solving abilities.
Desire to work with others in a team environment.
Minimum Work Experience
Experience with AutoCAD.
Experience in project management.
Experience with commercial furniture selection and specification.
Experience with space planning, test fits, and move coordination.
Additional Considerations
Experience in higher education setting.
Experience in a Virginia state institution.
Experience with drafting construction documents in AutoCAD and Revit.
Travel
This position will be required to travel between NOVA Campus.
