Overview
We are seeking an experienced
Interim Controller
to provide support to a nonprofit finance team during year-end close and annual audit preparation. This engagement is ideal for an experienced accounting professional who thrives in deadline-driven environments, can work independently with minimal supervision, and brings strong technical expertise in balance sheet reconciliations and account research. The organization has a high volume of balance sheet accounts that require detailed research, reconciliation, and clean-up. The successful candidate will be confident stepping into a fast-paced environment and quickly adding value through hands-on accounting work and audit readiness support.
Required Experience & Qualifications
Significant nonprofit accounting experience, preferably at the Controller, Assistant Controller, or Accounting Manager level
Exceptional attention to detail with strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills
Extensive experience with balance sheet account reconciliations
Proven success supporting year-end close and financial statement audits, including working directly with external auditors
Ability to work independently, prioritize effectively, and meet tight deadlines
Strong working knowledge of Sage Intacct
Key Responsibilities
Researching, reconciling, and cleaning up balance sheet accounts
Preparing schedules and documentation for year-end close
Supporting preparation of audit schedules for the FY 2026 financial statement audit
Managing assigned tasks independently and providing timely updates on status or issues
Utilizing Sage Intacct to complete reconciliations, supporting schedules, and all related research and corrections
Compensation
Compensation: $65-$85/HR DOE
