Interim Controller
E78 Talent, Austin, TX, United States
We’re looking for a hands‑on Controller to lead day‑to‑day accounting and financial operations, with additional “light CFO” responsibilities such as supporting forecasting, KPI reporting, and strategic financial decision‑making. This role is ideal for someone who can own the close, strengthen processes, and partner closely with leadership as we scale.
What you’ll do
Own the monthly close process and ensure timely, accurate financial statements (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow).
Manage general ledger activities including journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial reporting.
Oversee AR/AP, cash management, and treasury‑related activities to maintain strong liquidity and controls.
Maintain and improve accounting policies, internal controls, and standard operating procedures; support audit/tax readiness.
Partner with leadership on budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and operating KPI dashboards.
Support revenue recognition and SaaS metrics reporting (e.g., ARR/MRR, churn, deferred revenue) as applicable.
Lead and develop any accounting/finance team members or external partners (e.g., CPA firm, tax provider, payroll).
Drive NetSuite optimization: workflows, reporting, integrations, and data hygiene.
Assist with board/investor reporting and ad hoc strategic analysis as needed (light CFO responsibilities).
What we’re looking for
5–10+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, including Controller or equivalent ownership of close and reporting.
Strong knowledge of GAAP and practical experience implementing controls and scalable processes.
NetSuite experience (required) with demonstrated ability to build reports and improve system usage.
Experience in a SaaS or subscription business model strongly preferred.
High attention to detail, strong judgment, and ability to operate independently in a fast‑moving environment.
Clear communicator who can translate financials into insights for non‑financial stakeholders.
Preferred qualifications
CPA (active or prior) and/or public accounting background.
Experience supporting annual audit, due diligence, or transaction readiness.
Familiarity with FP&A, cohort/retention analysis, and unit economics.
