Job Description
The Finance Manager position is located in Winston‑Salem, NC, with the option to sit in Raleigh, Durham, or Rocky Mount, NC.
Job Summary
Lead the general accounting and financial activities for client projects, including reconciliations, audits (cash, inventory, SOC 1), and interface with clients, vendors, and auditors. Focus on process controls, efficiencies, and meeting monthly performance measures while supervising a small accounting team.
Duties And Responsibilities
Develop accounting standard operating procedures and internal controls.
Direct, monitor, and evaluate accounting processes and staff performance.
Maintain and update accounting systems and procedures.
Oversee weekly payables, customer refunds, and daily/monthly journal entries.
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting and analysis.
Coordinate daily, monthly, quarterly, and annual reconciliations.
Assess back‑office software for efficiency improvements.
Ensure key performance measures are met.
Participate in internal and client project meetings.
Interface with clients, subcontractors, vendors, and auditors.
Conduct internal audits (e.g., physical inventory) and external audits (SOC 1 Type II).
Stay up to date with accounting trends, regulations, GAAP, and GASB.
Assume additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
Ability to work independently under strict deadlines.
Maintain confidentiality and discretion.
Proficiency in MS Excel and MS Word; ability to learn new software.
Analytical ability with complex instructions, diagrams, and data.
Experience with PC software and spreadsheet development.
Read, comprehend, and write technical and financial documents.
Present information clearly in one‑on‑one and group settings.
Interpret financial reports, legal documents, and operational issues.
Respond to inquiries from customers and regulatory agencies.
Translate operational issues into financial risk assessments.
Experience in a high‑volume, regulated transaction environment.
Physical Demands
Perform essential functions consistent with ADA, FMLA, and federal, state, local standards.
Sedentary work with occasional lifting of up to 10 pounds.
Daily use of computer, keyboard, telephone, and standard office equipment.
Regular speech, hearing, and listening requirements.
Hand‑eye coordination for operating computer and office equipment.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Lead and coordinate accounting and finance teams of one to three members.
Conduct supervisory duties in accordance with company policies and laws.
Education And/Or Experience
B.A. or B.S. in Accounting or a related field.
CPA license preferred but not required.
Five years of financial/accounting experience, including management in a GAAP‑compliant, high‑volume transaction environment.
Experience with tolling back‑office systems preferred.
Ability to package and present quantitative data effectively.
