The Staff Accountant supports the Fleet accounting team by engaging in all aspects of the department's full cycle accounting process. This includes preparing journal entries during the month‑end close, preparing variance explanations, working on account reconciliations, and following up to resolve issues as necessary. The role also cross‑trains with others to provide adequate backup to the department and works in conjunction with other finance and CCL business teams as required.

Essential Functions

Prepare monthly account reconciliations and follow up to clear reconciling items.

Prepare journal entries and accruals during month‑end closings.

Other duties as assigned.

Work with operating groups to research and explain variances to forecast and budget.

Assists management in preparing quarterly and annual deliverables submitted to corporate.

Support management in preparing required schedules for internal and external auditors.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Scope: Collaborate with both Shoreside and Shipboard; CCL only.

Problem solving: The Staff Accountant role involves analyzing financial data that may contain inconsistencies, incomplete information, or unexpected variances. When faced with a complex situation, the individual is expected to research underlying transactions, reconcile discrepancies across multiple systems, and apply accounting judgement to determine the appropriate resolution. This includes anticipating potential impacts on the general ledger, financial reporting, or compliance requirements. The role requires the ability to investigate issues beyond routine procedures, collaborate with cross‑functional teams, and propose corrective actions supported by clear documentation and analysis.

Impact: The Staff Accountant role has a significant impact across the business by ensuring the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of financial information relied on by Operations, FP&A, leadership teams, and auditors. Within the accounting discipline, the role upholds established standards through consistent application of accounting principles, proper documentation, and adherence to internal controls. The Staff Accountant contributes to the reliability of the general ledger, supports compliance efforts, and identifies issues that may influence multiple departments. While the role does not set standards, it plays a critical part in maintaining them and ensuring that the broader accounting function operates effectively and accurately.

Qualifications

Knowledge of or ability to learn Oracle Financials or other related financial software.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite with intermediate‑level skills in Excel to perform analysis using pivot and lookup tables.

Knowledge of accrual‑based accounting.

Strong analytical skills with ability to work in a collaborative manner in a fast‑paced team‑based environment.

Good verbal and written communication skills.

Demonstrated sense of urgency in completing assignments.

Ability to demonstrate flexibility and change in a dynamic environment.

Ability to prioritize workloads and meet tight deadlines.

Personal integrity, as well as a high level of respect for all individuals.

2+ years of experience working in public or private accounting. Experience with full‑cycle accounting, month‑end closing process and variance analysis.

Travel

None or very little travel likely.

Work Conditions

Work beyond normal business hours or on weekends may be required occasionally to support business needs.

Physical Demands

Must be able to remain in a stationary position at a desk and/or computer for extended periods of time.

This position is classified as “remote.” As a remote role, it allows employees to work full‑time from their home. It may also require regular travel to Carnival headquarters in Miami, FL for in‑office collaboration. Sourcing of candidates is primarily done in Carnival’s remote hubs of Orlando, Tampa, Atlanta, Houston, and Dallas. If the search is extended past those areas, candidates must be located in one of the following U.S. states: FL, GA, TX and NC.
