Job Description

A large and growing construction organization is seeking a

Project Accounting Lead

to oversee project financials and support a team of project accountants. This role offers leadership responsibility, high visibility, and the opportunity to grow within a rapidly expanding company.
The ideal candidate will bring strong construction project accounting experience along with leadership or mentoring exposure, and the ability to operate in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
Key Responsibilities

Project Accounting & Job Costing
Coordinate all phases of job costing including tracking, categorizing, and analyzing project costs
Monitor financial performance across large and multiple smaller projects
Partner with Project Managers to ensure accurate financial reporting and project lifecycle support
Manage lump sum and cost-plus/GMP billing structures
Oversee compliance documentation including Certificates of Insurance, lien waivers, and bonds
Ensure accurate and timely billing aligned with contract terms
Ensure accuracy and integrity of accounting systems and internal controls
Monitor financial data and coordinate reporting across projects
Prepare standard and ad hoc financial reports
Leadership & Team Oversight
Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of Project Accountants
Provide performance feedback, coaching, and training
Lead departmental initiatives including process improvements and system implementations
Compliance & Strategy
Maintain knowledge of accounting regulations and industry best practices
Recommend updates to policies and procedures to improve efficiency and compliance
Support leadership with financial strategy and decision-making
Qualifications

5+ years of project accounting experience within the construction industry
1+ year of leadership, mentoring, or team lead experience
Experience with lump sum and cost-plus/GMP billing required
Strong knowledge of compliance documentation (COIs, lien waivers, bonds)
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Construction Management
Advanced Excel skills and strong technical proficiency
Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
