Overview
As a Senior Specialist of Inventory Control, you will help keep Wayfair’s retail operations running smoothly by resolving receiving exceptions, improving inventory accuracy, and supporting store teams across a growing regional network. You play a key role in ensuring products flow correctly from our fulfillment centers to stores, creating a seamless shopping experience for our customers.
What Does a Sr. Specialist of Inventory Control Do?
Resolve Inbound Exceptions:
Investigate and resolve receiving issues quickly and accurately so inventory remains sellable and available to customers.
Serve as the SME for Exceptions:
Provide training, resources, and guidance to store teams on inbound exceptions processes and best practices.
Analyze Inventory Trends:
Review receiving performance data, spot patterns, and recommend improvements to strengthen accuracy across stores.
Partner Across the Network:
Collaborate with fulfillment centers, P&A teams, Field Operations, and corporate partners to reduce exceptions and troubleshoot challenges.
Assess Store Performance Weekly:
Review weekly inventory metrics and provide clear insights and action plans to store leadership.
Conduct Targeted Cycle Counts:
Perform focused counts tied to discrepancies, category resets, or seasonal updates.
Support Inventory Audits:
Play an important role in bi‑annual audits and BOH cycle counts to maintain operational excellence.
Oversee Adjustments and Daily Tickets:
Manage daily damage reviews, inventory adjustments, and tickets within Tangerine, escalating when service levels require attention.
Operate as “One Team”:
You will support Wayfair’s total store goals by cross‑training across key store functions, including sales and back‑of‑house operations. You’ll flex where needed to support customers, teammates, store needs and peak business periods.
You’ll Thrive in This Role if You Have:
Inventory Expertise:
A minimum of 1‑2 years of experience with inventory control, receiving workflows, or operational troubleshooting in a retail or fulfillment environment.
Problem‑Solving and Analytical Strength:
Ability to investigate issues, identify root causes, and build clear, actionable solutions.
Training and Collaboration Skills:
Comfort supporting multiple stores, coaching teams, and working closely with cross‑functional partners.
Technical Proficiency:
Familiarity with Google Suite or Microsoft Office and confidence navigating inventory or exception‑management tools.
Attention to Detail:
A sharp eye for trends, discrepancies, and compliance.
Schedule Availability:
Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays based on business needs.
Additional Physical and Environmental Requirements
Physical Activity:
Frequent standing, walking, and reaching with hands and arms; occasional sitting, climbing, balancing, and crawling.
Mobility & Movement:
Frequent stooping, kneeling, and crouching throughout the day.
Lifting Ability:
Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs independently on a regular basis. Some projects may involve heavier items, which must be managed with proper assistance or equipment.
Vision Requirements:
Includes close, distance, color, and peripheral vision; depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
Temperature Flexibility:
Comfortable in environments with varying temperature conditions.
Noise Tolerance:
Occasional exposure to moderate noise levels and physical activity.
