Roadway Design Engineer – Project Manager

Within our Transportation Practice, LJB has spent more than five decades designing infrastructure that connects people, supports communities, and improves quality of life. We are seeking an experienced Roadway Design Engineer – Project Manager to support and grow our practice in our Dayton, Ohio office.
Annual Compensation: $95,000 – 185,000 based upon experience, certifications, and regional market standards.

Essential Functions
Responsible for scope, fees, and the profitability of individual projects as well as a portfolio of projects.
Act as the primary point of contact for clients while functioning as project manager.
Assist in new sales with clients for which they are managing projects.
Guide and coordinate all internal LJB transportation disciplines, sub‑consultants, and clients.
Understand the roles of other transportation disciplines and their requirements for specific projects.
Manage the nine knowledge areas of the Project Management Institute (PMI) for each phase of the project, including:
Project Integration Management
Project Scope Management
Project Time Management
Project Cost Management
Project Quality Management
Project Human Resource Management
Project Communications Management
Project Risk Management
Project Procurement Management
Responsible for assisting the Deputy Operations Manager in maintaining PM best practices.
On larger projects, the PM may or may not be directly involved in the design.
Report employee performance on particular projects to the Deputy Operations Manager.
Provide information to the Deputy Operations Manager on future projects to aid in staffing decisions.
Assist in informal development of other employees.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering required.
P.E. license required; North Carolina PE is preferred. Successful candidates will be expected to obtain their NC PE within the first year of hire.
Qualifications
At least 10 years of experience in consulting or engineering is required, 5 years of project management experience is preferred.
Experience working on DOT design projects is required; experience with multiple DOTs is a plus.
Deltek Vantagepoint or similar CRM and Project Management software experience is preferred.
MicroStation, OpenRoads, AutoCAD, and Civil‑3D software experience is preferred.
