Senior SAP Application Analyst (FICO & JVA)
Catapult Federal Services, Denver, CO, United States
Overview
Senior Application Analyst — FICO & JVA | Finance & Accounting Technology | Denver, CO (Hybrid/Remote Considered) | Full-Time
About Our Client: Our client is a dynamic, values-driven energy company specializing in upstream unconventional oil and gas investments and production. They are undergoing a significant SAP S/4HANA enterprise transformation in partnership with a Big 4 consulting firm.
This is a high-impact, techno-functional role at the intersection of SAP technology and upstream oil and gas business operations. As the Senior Application Analyst for FICO and JVA, you will be the primary internal expert driving SAP S/4HANA configuration and support for Finance, Controlling, and Joint Venture Accounting, serving as the link between back-office business teams and IT/implementation partners.
You will be involved in an active SAP S/4HANA implementation (Phase Zero underway, go-live targeted April 2027). You will work daily with stakeholders in accounting, finance, legal, and HR to gather requirements, translate them into functional specs, configure solutions, and ensure the system supports operational needs. The team runs lean, so the role requires comfort in both configuration sessions and facilitating business requirements workshops.
The position reports to back-office technology leadership and will collaborate with EY implementation consultants, internal business units, and external AMS support partners. The right candidate is a self-directed professional with deep SAP FICO/JVA expertise, upstream energy experience, and the business acumen to operate as a trusted advisor to non-technical stakeholders.
Duties & Responsibilities
Configure, support, and enhance SAP FICO and JVA modules throughout the implementation lifecycle and into steady-state operations.
Serve as the internal subject matter expert for SAP FICO and Joint Venture solutions, ensuring alignment with business objectives and upstream industry best practices.
Partner with business stakeholders in finance, accounting, legal, and operations to understand processes, capture requirements, and translate them into functional specifications and solution designs.
Support and manage system integrations with third-party upstream applications and financial platforms.
Troubleshoot system issues, coordinate root cause analysis, and drive resolution in collaboration with technical teams and implementation partners.
Lead and support testing activities including unit testing, integration testing, and user acceptance testing (UAT).
Develop training materials and support end-user onboarding and change management initiatives.
Ensure data accuracy, integrity, and compliance with internal controls, SOX requirements, and applicable regulatory standards.
Support reporting, analytics, and data governance efforts related to upstream financial operations.
Identify and implement opportunities to streamline upstream business processes and improve system performance.
Collaborate with cross-functional IT teams and EY implementation consultants as an internal project driver.
Required Experience & Skills
5+ years of experience as a Business Analyst or SAP Application Analyst with hands-on support of FICO and JVA modules.
Strong understanding of upstream oil & gas FICO and JVA business terminology and operational workflows.
Demonstrated ability to gather requirements, write functional specifications, and independently configure SAP systems.
Experience supporting or leading SAP implementations or major system enhancements.
Proficient in SQL, scripting, and data analysis.
Familiarity with integration tools, APIs, and third-party upstream application connectivity.
Experience with change management, testing methodologies (UAT, integration), and system lifecycle practices.
Excellent communication, documentation, and stakeholder management skills — able to translate technical concepts for non-technical audiences.
Strong analytical and troubleshooting capabilities with advanced attention to detail.
Ability to operate independently with limited supervision in a fast-paced, lean team environment.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
Nice-to-Haves
Experience in SAP S/4HANA implementations (as opposed to legacy ECC environments).
Upstream natural gas experience preferred over oil; Texas-specific operational exposure is a plus.
Familiarity with Workday HCM/ERP or other enterprise platforms in an oil and gas context.
Experience working alongside Big 4 consulting implementation teams.
Background supporting AMS (Application Managed Services) environments post-go-live.
Education
Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Business, Engineering, Accounting, or a related field required.
Pay & Benefits Summary
Salary Range: $134,000 – $262,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.
Hybrid or remote work arrangements considered for the right candidate (Denver-based preferred; relocation support may be available).
Travel requirement: approximately 5% in steady state; higher during active implementation phases.
Comprehensive health, dental, and vision benefits.
401(k) with company contribution.
Paid time off and company holidays.
Opportunity to play a defining role in a high-visibility enterprise transformation at a growing energy company.
