Position:
Mechanical Technician Senior (Spacecraft Mechanical Technician Sr.) – El Segundo, California.
Position Responsibilities
Assembles, installs, tests, checks out and inspects mechanical spacecraft assemblies by interpreting blueprints, engineering drawings and specifications, and written assembly, integration, and test procedures.
Performs second-party verifications and visually inspects mechanical assemblies against drawings, engineering specifications, and written procedures.
Operates various material handling equipment, including forklifts, overhead cranes, aerial lift equipment, flight vehicle and sub-assembly transportation equipment, truck/tractor-trailer combinations and other GSE as required.
Operates a wide range of machine tools (drill press, grinders, chop saw, power and hand tools).
Interfaces with Design and Manufacturing Engineering, Manufacturing, Materials, Procurement and Shipping on procedural issues related to design, tooling, cost and product quality control.
Provides support in other mechanical areas as directed by leadership to meet business needs.
Cross-trains and mentors new hires.
Workplace Requirements
100% onsite; candidates must work at the listed location.
Primarily 1st shift; additional shifts may be required.
Hourly union-represented position governed by the Cabinet Makers, Millmen and Industrial Carpenters Union (CMM&IC Local 721). New hires and employees transferring from non-union roles may need to attend training during the 90-day probationary period.
Security Clearance
This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance, and the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An Interim and/or final U.S. Top Secret Clearance is required after hire.
Basic Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED.
More than 5 years of experience with structures, mechanical, electrical or final assembly.
More than 3 years of experience following written and verbal work instructions.
More than 3 years of experience working with blueprints, specifications, assembly drawings and SOPs.
More than 3 years of experience setting and using precision measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, and dial indicators.
More than 3 years of experience working with at least one of: adhesives, composites, epoxy, fabrics, honeycomb core, laminates/plastics, resins.
Ability to stand, reach, bend or stoop to handle products for extended periods.
Capable of lifting 20 lbs or more frequently.
Preferred Qualifications
More than 3 years of experience using structural hand tools, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, sheet metal brakes and sheers.
More than 3 years of experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
More than 3 years in a >= 100000 class Clean Room environment.
More than 5 years building a variety of component-level space products (avionics boxes, batteries, mechanisms, optics, PCB assemblies, solar arrays).
More than 5 years with mechanical troubleshooting, disassembly and repair.

Must satisfy the Company’s Conflict of Interest assessment.

Travel may be required up to 5% of the time.

Pay is based on experience, with a summary pay range of 29.42 - 47.09 per hour.
