
Equipment & Materials Procurement Technician

Job Description
At Idaho National Laboratory, you will activate and fulfill orders using blanket ordering agreements, purchase cards, and computer material ordering systems. You will collaborate with vendors, buyers, planners, and customers to facilitate timely delivery of materials and services, interpret technical specifications, and integrate requirements into procurement documents. Status updates on material orders will be provided, nuclear‑grade procurements supported, warehouse and kitting activities assisted, and strong customer service delivered to vendors and procurement specialists.
Responsibilities
Activate and fulfill orders using blanket ordering agreements (including Business‑to‑Business agreements), purchase‑card, or computer material ordering system, and procure nuclear‑grade items as needed.
Provide status updates for material orders and services to aid accurate scheduling and delivery.
Collaborate with vendors, buyers, planners, technicians, and customers, input purchase order data into a computer system, and prepare Bills of Materials.
Interpret technical specifications, review and develop statements of work, research vendor data, apply quality control requirements, identify potential sources of materials, and integrate all requirements into specification‑based requisitioning documents.
Provide customer service to vendors and procurement specialists to ensure timely additions of vendors to our systems.
Contact vendors for pricing information, expedite deliveries, and place orders for standard, off‑the‑shelf merchandise per pre‑negotiated contract prices.
Complete tasks related to warehouse, kitting, and staging.
Qualifications
Required
Level 3: High School diploma or equivalent plus 4 years of related experience.
Level 4: High School diploma or equivalent plus 6 years of related experience.
Experience must include technical material procurement.
Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "L" clearance; U.S. citizenship required.
Preferred
Experience with INL Material Acquisition process.
Degree preferred.
Physical Requirements
The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, bend, operate a computer keyboard or type, handle materials, or reach with hands and arms to perform essential functions. Duties require sitting for long periods, accessing stored file boxes and cabinets, and moving and organizing physical file materials. The employee may need to lift up to 25 pounds. Vision and hearing abilities needed for close and distance vision, depth perception, focus adjustment, research, inspection, and effective communication. Work is in an office setting with moderate noise levels. Reasonable accommodations may be provided.
Working Conditions
The job is performed in a general office environment with moderate noise. Employees monitor computer video displays and may experience intermittent stress due to various responsibilities.
Job Information
Pay range: Level 3 ($22.93 – $37.82) / Level 4 ($26.36 – $43.48). Compensation is determined by education, experience, and credentials.
Multi‑level posting – placement depends on experience and skill.
TDP: The position requires a pre‑employment drug screen and periodic testing during the term of employment.
