Contract to Hire

Pay Rate: $32.00 – $37.00/hr (Depending on Experience – 40hr/week)

As a Junior Telecom Engineer, you will provide operational support for our client’s wireless mesh network infrastructure, playing a direct role in advancing the next generation of smart grid technology across the Greater Chicago area. You will work alongside Senior Engineers to configure, troubleshoot, and deploy 5G network devices, and ensure network connectivity, IP accuracy, and overall system performance. This is a hands‑on role with real impact on electric grid reliability and service for millions of customers.

Qualifications

0–3 years of experience in networking, telecom, systems administration, or a related field

Bachelor's degree in Network Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, or equivalent experience

Knowledge of TCP/IP, IP stacks, and fundamental network troubleshooting

Systems administration background or familiarity with managing network platforms is a plus

Experience or familiarity with wireless technologies, Cisco, Nokia, or ITRON mesh network systems is a plus

Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and troubleshooting skills

Comfortable working both independently in the field and collaboratively as part of a team

Must be willing to travel to site locations across the Greater Chicago area (~80% office / 20% field)

Responsibilities

Connect to and configure 5G network devices, verifying correct IP addressing and successful connectivity to the wireless network

Support the replacement of capacity banks on the Itron Mesh Network with next-generation 5G infrastructure

Travel to substation sites across Cook, Lake, Kendall, and Silver Lake Counties to perform on‑site device installation and configuration

Troubleshoot and resolve day‑to‑day network issues, escalating complex problems to Senior Engineers as needed

Assist in implementing and enforcing procedures and security standards for all wireless devices

Support network administration and contribute to short‑ and long‑term infrastructure projects

Help identify opportunities to enhance network performance, capacity, security, and reliability
