
Office Assistant I/II

Office Assistants, under direct supervision (I) and general supervision (II), perform a variety of clerical duties in support of an operation, office, or program. Support activities may include public service, records maintenance, document production, and/or case management/processing.
Ideal candidates will possess good attention to detail; strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, and customer service skills; the ability to respond and adapt to changing working conditions; and the ability to learn and support a department’s business operations in ways consistent with its policies and procedures.
Classification and Salary
Office Assistant I
– $21.00 to $28.36 per hour (entry level classification). Incumbents perform routine clerical and/or manual tasks with simple, clear-cut instructions.
Office Assistant II
– $22.21 to $31.03 per hour (journey level classification). Incumbents perform a variety of clerical duties with some independent judgment.
NOTE: If appointed at the lower level, an incumbent may be promoted to the higher level without further exam upon meeting the minimum requirements, demonstrating satisfactory performance, and in accordance with the business needs of the department.

– 3.5% effective December 20, 2026 and 3.5% effective December 19, 2027
Merit Increases
– New employees are eligible for an initial 5% merit increase within the pay range upon completion of at least 1,040 hours (approximately 6 months), with subsequent increases each additional 2,080 hours.

– 2.5% for an associate’s degree, 3.5% for a bachelor’s degree, or 5% for a graduate degree.
Bilingual Incentive
– Compensation based on proficiency: $0.69 (Level I), $1.00 (Level II), or $1.32 (Level III) per hour.

Vacation Accrual
– Approximately 14 days of vacation a year for the first 10,400 hours, with accruals increasing up to 26 days at 20 years of service.

– After 14,560 hours of continuous service, employees may redeem up to 80 hours of vacation accrued in the same year.
Sick Leave
– Accrued 3.08 hours per bi-weekly pay period with an advance at hire of 40.04 hours.
Deferred Compensation
– Eligible for County 401(k) Shared Savings Plan and/or Section 457 Plan, with up to a 3.00% match.

– Full-time employees receive a flexible credit allowance to offset medical, dental, and vision insurance. Tiered options:
Tier I – Employee only – $463.99 per biweekly pay period

Responsibilities

Operate a variety of automated office equipment.
Type a variety of documents in draft and final form, proofread for correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
Sort and/or file materials; maintain files; conduct systematic searches for misplaced materials; maintain cross-reference files or indices; purge filing systems as necessary.
Use computerized equipment to produce routine reports, correspondence, or forms; enter, update, and/or extract stored information.
Prepare, validate, process, and/or check documents (permit applications, client records, personnel/payroll records, requisitions, invoices) for completeness, accuracy, and submission standards.
Compile routine reports and records by extracting and tabulating information from various sources.
Transfer professional and technical instructions to project or client files; research reference materials to respond to inquiries.
May perform equipment/system maintenance checks.
Perform other related duties as required.

– Requires any combination of education, training, or experience equivalent to two (2) years of office clerical experience.
