
Medical Staff Coordinator

Position Summary
Under the supervision of the Director of Medical, the Medical Staff Coordinator is responsible for the credentialing and re-credentialing of all Medical and Professional staff members in a timely manner and in accordance with all applicable state, federal and other regulatory requirements. The Coordinator also serves as a resource to the Medical Staff committee coordination, credentialing activities and General Staff Meeting scheduling and coordination, maintaining good communication and a positive environment to encourage Medical Staff members to utilize Mission Community Hospital as a partner in admitting and treating their patients.
Major Responsibilities
Coordination - 55%
Processes, reviews, and analyzes Medical Staff applications and reappointments to determine completeness and investigate further as needed.
Coordinates and prioritizes medical staff activities for designated departments and Committees.
Processes requests for temporary privileges, obtains appropriate approvals, and distributes notices of temporary privileges granted.
Maintains and updates the Medical Staff Database (MDStaff) as a result of the Governing Boards actions, including verification of current CA medical licensure, DEA certificates, professional liability insurance and other required certifications in accordance with Medical Staff Rules and Regulations.
Generates correspondence to keep physicians informed of their Medical Staff status (Board approval letters following the Board of Directors meeting).
Assures that Department Privilege Delineation forms reflect current practice and regulation requirements.
Manages requests for additional privileges, analyzes those requests in terms of required education criteria and obtains appropriate approvals.
Provides staff support with the Medical Staff Credentials and Interdisciplinary Practice Committees, including preparation of agendas, minutes, follow-up, credentials summaries and reports for the Medical Executive Committee and Board of Directors.
Assists with the coordination of the General Staff Meetings.
Improves professional growth and knowledge to maintain efficiency and effectiveness.
Complies with all hospital policies, accreditation agency standards, and federal confidentiality requirements related to management of information, including HIPAA compliance.
Communication - 30%
Completes Information Systems Data Sheet and forwards it to the IS and Medical Records Department (HIM).
Forwards photo to Intake Department to complete Identification Badge for Medical and Professional Staff.
Forwards Physician e-Record (EMR) Access forms to Information Systems.
Keeps Leadership and Nursing Administration informed of new physicians and professional staff.
Generates Medical Staff Rosters and distributes them to Leadership and Nursing Administration.
Miscellaneous / Other - 15%
Generates dues notices.
Assists with the collection of OPPE and Initial FPPE (Proctoring) process.
Requests procedure listings from HIM as requested.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required
3+ years of recent Medical Staff Services experience in an acute-care hospital setting.
Ability to solve problems and work well under pressure.
Ability to work independently with little supervision.
Demonstrates ability to interact with a variety of healthcare professionals.
Basic knowledge of medical terminology.
Familiar with TJC Standards and Title 22 Regulations.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
90-day period to obtain Fire Safety certification.
Two-week period to obtain TB screening on an annual basis.
Preferred
Knowledge of Medical Staff Database (MDStaff) Word, Excel.
