The Role
GM Defense (GMD) is a dynamic and exciting growth opportunity within General Motors! Within GMD, the Integrated Product Support (IPS) organization is responsible for providing aftersales support to our defense industry customers to ensure customer satisfaction and business growth. As part of the IPS organization, the Service and Sustainment Engineering Operations team has responsibility for the service deliverable readiness of every GMD vehicle globally. Part of this readiness includes Service Part release, Technical Manuals, Maintenance Allocation Chart (MAC), Repair Parts & Special Tools (RPSTL), diagnostic software, service programming, pre-delivery inspection forms, and customer service information. The Serviceability Design Engineer position plays a key role in supporting these deliverables for both electrical and mechanical components.
The selected candidate will be responsible for representing advanced serviceability and re-manufacturability during the Design Development Process. This person will participate in Product Engineering meetings and peer reviews representing service to identify, address or escalation service issues as appropriate with respect to GM best practices and GMD customer requirements. The Serviceability Design Engineer is expected to adhere to all International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
What You'll Do
This position will be responsible for GM Defense’s activity related to all deliverables listed above. This position is also responsible for all GMD programs and GMD customer variants.
Specific responsibilities include:
Lead identification of Service Parts for Development of Service Parts BOM
Support development and validation of service special tools and procedures
Provide support for emerging and quality issues
Provide technical support for various other teams including: Program management, Product Engineering, Parts Release, Remanufacturing, Service Training, Warranty Center, Technical Assistance, Assembly Plants, Field support, Suppliers
Work with other department functions and suppliers to implement cost reduction, math improvements, while supporting all department programs.
Provide technical direction to support personnel as required
Communications information to and from internal and external customer organizations
Stay abreast of new technology and driven practices
Perform special assignments as requested
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Technology or related discipline
Candidate must be a U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident, asylee or refugee).
2 years of professional experience
1+ years of experience in Serviceability Engineering, Field Service, or Product Support or related field
Ability to read engineering schematics
Familiarity with service information diagnostics and/or authoring
Ability to make decisions autonomously, manage workload and elevate when necessary
Strong analytical skills and expertise in data-driven problem-solving
Ability to obtain a Common Access Card (CAC)
What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
Familiarity with HV / Hybrid operation theory
HV / Hybrid vehicle and system diagnostic and repair experience
Illustration and graphics development skills
Technical writing background
Dealership technician experience, or equivalent military experience.
Experienced in Serviceability of Design for military applications.
Experience working with supplier
