Summary of Assignment
This assignment is accountable for assisting in the training and supervision of the cheerleading squad and assisting the cheerleader coach as directed. It also involves instructing student athletes in the cheerleading activity and providing leadership to help each participating student achieve a high level of skill, appreciate the values of discipline and sportsmanship, and increase self‑esteem.
Minimum Education and Experience
Certificate of Completion for Module 15 from the Connecticut Coaching Education Program.
Connecticut State Department of Education Coach permit or Temporary Coach permit.
Current CPR and First Aid Certificates.
High School diploma or GED.
Successful completion of pre‑employment process.
Motor Vehicle operator’s license (may be required).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of care and treatment of athletic injuries.
Knowledge of cheerleading and coaching techniques.
Knowledge of state, federal, and school board policies regarding student conduct.
Active listening, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
Coaching and public speaking skills.
Basic equipment repair and maintenance skills.
Clear written and verbal communication.
Ability to diffuse situations and establish rapport with students.
Ability to physically perform essential functions and recognize minor injuries.
Work within assigned hours and collaborate with others.
Leadership and cultural sensitivity.
Essential Functions
Assist cheerleaders in injury prevention and care.
Support program improvement and practice organization.
Help establish uniform selection procedures.
Participate in equipment purchases and facility preparation.
Assist in fundraising and attend required clinics, camps, and seminars.
Communicate with teachers to encourage student achievement.
Develop and distribute written rules for cheerleaders.
Direct practice sessions and ensure safe practices.
Maintain equipment inventory and equipment care.
Model positive behavior and maintain confidentiality.
Provide leadership in public events and student support.
Report injuries to school nurse or principal.
Physical and Mental Requirements
Applicants must have adequate physical strength, stamina, agility, visual and auditory acuity to perform the duties, including forward and backward movement, lifting up to 50 lbs, and standing for extended periods.
