OLIVE‑HARVEY COLLEGE
The Olive-Harvey College Hacking Club and Project Evolve are seeking a Cyber Range Intern to assist in building and supporting a hands-on cyber range for student learning, training, and club activities. This role is ideal for a student interested in cybersecurity, networking, systems administration, ethical hacking, and lab design.

Responsibilities

Assist with building and configuring virtual machines and lab systems for the cyber range.

Help install, maintain, and troubleshoot Windows and Linux environments.

Support setup of lab networking, including segmentation, routing, and connectivity for training scenarios.

Assist with installing and testing cybersecurity tools used in the range environment.

Help develop hands-on exercises for ethical hacking, system defense, vulnerability assessment, and monitoring.

Document lab configurations, setup procedures, and student instructions.

Support club activities, workshops, and practice environments related to cybersecurity competitions or demonstrations.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must be 16 years or older, have work permit consent, and be eligible to work in the United States.

Applicants must be actively attending one of the City Colleges of Chicago.

Applicants must be enrolled in a minimum of 5 semester hours pre‑credit or credit classes.

Applicants must have and maintain a minimum cumulative 2.0 GPA (waived for first semester new students).

Applicants must be in good standing with no City Colleges of Chicago academic restrictions.

Applicants must not be current Full or Part‑time employees of the City Colleges of Chicago.

Enrolled Freshmen may work during the break prior to attending the next school term.

All positions are employment at‑will.

Maximum of 20 hours per week.

Qualifications

Current Olive-Harvey College students with coursework or experience in cybersecurity, networking, information technology, or computer systems.

Basic understanding of computer networks, operating systems, and cybersecurity concepts.

Familiarity with Windows and Linux systems.

Strong problem-solving skills, dependability, and willingness to learn.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with virtualization platforms such as VirtualBox, VMware, Proxmox, or Hyper‑V.

Familiarity with tools such as Wireshark, Nmap, Kali Linux, Metasploit, Splunk, or Nessus. Basic scripting experience in Python, Bash, or PowerShell.

Participation in cybersecurity labs, CTFs, Hack The Box, or club projects.

Skills Developed

Cyber range and lab development

Systems and network administration

Cybersecurity tool deployment and troubleshooting

Technical documentation and collaborative project work

Note: This position supports the educational mission of the Olive-Harvey College Hacking Club and Project Evolve by helping create a safe, realistic, and engaging environment for cybersecurity training and student development.

Student worker rate is $17.00/hr. If variance from $17.00/hr is required, College HR/Recruitment must discuss with District Compensation. The rate paid is in accordance with City Colleges approved salary scale.
