QA/QC Technician – Data Center (Structured Cabling)
TEKsystems, Ridgeville, SC, United States
Data Center Environment | Contract | Long-Term Project Opportunity
We are seeking a detail-driven QA/QC Technician to support large-scale data center telecom and structured cabling projects. This role is strictly focused on quality assurance and quality control auditing — verifying completed work meets required standards, documenting findings, and helping ensure projects are delivered with minimal rework.
This position is ideal for someone who understands structured cabling and data center environments and prefers to inspect, audit, and validate work, rather than perform daily installations.
Role Overview
The QA/QC Technician works behind installation teams to inspect completed telecom infrastructure and ensure compliance with industry standards, manufacturer specifications, and project requirements. You will evaluate workmanship, testing, labeling, dressing, and overall readiness of installed systems. Success in this role requires an auditor’s mindset, strong documentation skills, and the confidence to communicate findings clearly and professionally on active job sites.
Key Responsibilities
Quality Audits & Inspections
Conduct daily QA/QC inspections at assigned data center sites
Audit completed fiber and copper cabling installations, telecom equipment, and rack layouts
Verify compliance with applicable standards (BICSI, TIA, OEM specifications, and data center best practices)
Identify non-conformities, risks, and areas for improvement using inspection checklists
Confirm proper testing, cable dressing, labeling, and overall system functionality
Documentation & Reporting
Accurately document inspection results, deficiencies, and corrective actions
Maintain organized records of inspections, findings, and follow-ups
Deliver clear, professional reports to site leadership and project stakeholders
Corrective Actions & Collaboration
Communicate deviations from quality standards to supervisors and project leadership
Provide recommendations to improve quality, consistency, and efficiency
Support quality training efforts when requested
Continuous Improvement
Stay current with industry codes, installation standards, and internal quality practices
Adjust inspection and audit methods as standards and project requirements evolve
Required Qualifications
2+ years of experience in structured cabling or telecom infrastructure
Strong understanding of data center cabling environments
Knowledge of fiber optic and copper cabling concepts, rack layouts, and cable management
Familiarity with industry and manufacturer standards (BICSI, TIA, OEM specs)
Quality-focused mindset with strong attention to detail
Comfortable working independently and managing daily inspection tasks
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Professional demeanor when interacting with installers, supervisors, and clients
Preferred (Nice To Have)
Fiber optic cable testing or inspection experience
Technical support or OSP exposure
Learning Management System (LMS) experience
Ability to support installation teams during downtime, if required
Ideal Profile
This Role Is Best Suited For Someone Who
Thinks like an auditor, not just an installer
Knows what “right” looks like in a data center environment
Can critically assess work and identify potential risks before issues escalated
Is comfortable documenting issues clearly—even when it means pushing back
Installation experience is valuable, but the primary focus of this role is inspection, verification, and documentation.
