
INTERNAL POSTING - LE Investigator

This employee will be assigned to the SCDNR Law Enforcement Investigations Section.
Job Duties
Conducting or assisting with assigned fatality and incident/accident investigations, along with training relevant to conducting investigations.
Conducting assigned Marine Theft investigations, recovering stolen boats/motors or boats/motors identified as contraband.
Maintaining/preserving recovered boats/motors at designated storage areas within DNR parameters.
Investigating Regulatory Marker requests as assigned.
Submitting reports and making recommendations in writing.
Conducting or assisting with training related to the Investigative Section including the Basic Marine Law Enforcement boating school.
Performing investigative duties including background investigations and other investigations as assigned.
Attending annual in-service training and maintaining academy certifications.
Attending any other training relevant to the employee's job functions.
Keeping all issued departmental equipment in operational readiness condition and maintaining inventories of issued equipment.
High school diploma and three (3) years experience as a SCDNR Class I Law Enforcement Officer. Knowledge, skills and abilities acquired through successive rank promotions as a Law Enforcement Officer. Basic computer skills. Effective communication skills with an understanding of the South Carolina judicial process, to include the Solicitors office, Coroner's office, and medical personnel as well as other Law Enforcement Departments.
Qualifications
Extensive knowledge of SC Lakes, Rivers and Waterways.
Extensive knowledge of State and Federal Laws relating to boating.
Knowledge of SC laws relating to hunting incidents.
Knowledge of boat operation and watercraft characteristics.
Knowledge of State and Federal Laws relating to boat hull numbers/outboard serial numbers.
Applicant will be required to adhere to an on-call schedule and may be required to work on holidays and weekends to complete job tasks to professional standards.
