Summary
This position is located at DLA Central Command/Special Operations Command (DLA-C/S), McDill Air Force Base, FL. The role will support CENTCOM’s mission and is a priority for DLA General Counsel.
Duties
Serve as legal counsel to the Regional Commander, DLA-C/S, and provide advice on Contract and Fiscal Law, Administrative Law, US and Local Military Labor Law, Ethics and Standards of Conduct, and Military Justice for the Central Command region.
Advisory on International, Operational, Environmental, and Intelligence Law with emphasis on DLA operations within Central Command.
Provide enterprise legal support to all DLA field activities in the CENTCOM region, demonstrating understanding of DLA’s strategic mission.
Assist leaders of DLA field activities in planning and management, particularly regarding fiscal law compliance.
Collaborate with Major Subordinate Command Chief Counsel offices and other headquarters divisions on intersecting matters.
Consult with General Counsel or Deputy General Counsel on matters of major importance and keep senior management informed of significant operational developments and legal issues.
Provide back‑up support to other practice areas within Headquarters as needed.
Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Must be a U.S. Citizen.
This is an Excepted Service position.
Security Requirements: Special Sensitive/SCI.
Appointment subject to a favorable suitability or fitness determination; unfavourable background checks may result in removal.
Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA): Exempt.
Selective Service Requirement: Males born after 12‑31‑59 must be registered or exempt.
Financial Disclosure Requirement: Required.
Qualifications
The first professional law degree (LLB or J.D.) is required. Proof of licensure and membership in good standing with a state, U.S. commonwealth, U.S. territory, or District of Columbia bar is required. Certificate of good standing must be issued within six months of the closing date of this announcement.
For GS‑14 level applicants:
Professional legal experience of more than 3 years in areas relevant to the duties of the position.
Experience advising federal government on International and Operational Law, Contract and Fiscal Law, or related fields is desired. At least one year of relevant experience at the next lower federal grade is mandatory.
Excellent analytical, communication, judgment, interpersonal, and leadership skills are required.
Security Clearance
The position requires a Special Sensitive (SCI) security clearance. The incumbent must obtain and maintain this clearance and be subject to periodic re‑investigation as required by DoD 5200.2‑R.
Education
You must provide transcripts or other documentation to support your educational claims. Unofficial transcripts are acceptable at the time of application.
