Interventional Radiology (Coverage & Call) Assignment Overview

  • Lodging: Providers typically stay at the local Holiday Inn Express to ensure compliance with the 30-minute response window.
Essential Skills & Procedures

The provider must be proficient in the following IR procedures:

  • Vascular: Embolization, Pulmonary Thrombectomy, IVC Filter Insertion, TIPS.
  • Access: Central Venous Access (Dialysis Catheters, Central Lines, PICCs).
  • Drainage/Aspiration: Abscess, Nephrostomy, and Biliary drains; Thoracentesis and Paracentesis.
  • Spine: Lumbar Puncture (LP).
Clinical Expectations
  • Call-Back Triggers: Emergent or time-sensitive interventional procedures.
  • On-Site Volume: Average on-site callback time ranges from 1 to 5 hours per shift, depending on case complexity.
Administrative & Billing Requirements
  • Documentation: Supporting clinical notes are required on all timesheets to verify callback hours.
  • Validation: Timesheet entries must include specific reasons for the call-back to allow for EHR audit validation.
  • Exclusions: Telephone calls and medical record reviews do not qualify as on-site callback hours.
Overtime: All OT requires advance approval unless a medical emergency is clearly documented on the timesheet.
