General Summary
Essential Functions:
Minimum Education:
Provides palliative care professional consultation services for patients and mentors and models palliative care principles for clinical staff. Mentors residents, students, fellows and medical staff in palliative care and provides teaching, as needed.
Duties and ResponsibilitiesEssential Functions:
- Provides palliative care consultations and services to patients, as needed. Collaborates with Palliative Care Consultation Staff.
- Participates in providing high visibility of the Palliative Care Initiative by active membership on Palliative Care Department Committees; assisting in the review of quality in Palliative Care; providing visibility of palliative care on Hospital Medical Staff and WellSpan Medical Group Committees; and through building relationships with the medical staff.
- Mentors residents, students, fellows and medical staff in palliative care. Teaches on resident and medical student rotations as needed. Mentors and teaches medical staff as needed.
- Provides in-hospital palliative care consultations as requested.
- Attends regularly scheduled Palliative Care consult team and IDT meetings.
- Participates in Medical Staff activities as required and/or as requested.
- Observes the Bylaws and Rules and Regulations of the Hospital and the Medical Staff.
- Demonstrates a commitment to patient, visitor and staff by: complying with all applicable safety regulations; learning the impact of medical errors and methodology that will lead to reduction of errors; reporting actual and potential errors, as well as hazardous conditions; identifying opportunities to standardize processes and "error proof" systems that will lead to increased safety; and participating in safety education programs and root cause analyses as required.
- Provides outstanding service to all customers; fosters teamwork; and practices fiscal responsibility through improvement and innovation.

Minimum Education:
- Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) Required or
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) Required
- Licensed Medical Physician and Surgeon Upon Hire Required or
- Licensed Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine Upon Hire Required
- Diplomate of the American Board of Family Practice or Internal Medicine or the American Osteopathic Board of Family Practice or Internal Medicine. Upon Hire Required and
- Hospice and Palliative Care Certification through the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) or if a DO, through the Osteopathic Board process. Upon Hire Required and
- Completion of a Family Practice or Internal Medicine residency. Upon Hire Required and
- Must qualify and be a member of the Medical Staff of the Hospital. Upon Hire Required and
- Harvard Palliative Care Training. Upon Hire Required and
- Proof of Added Competency in Palliative Care (e.g., Decisions Near the End of Life Faculty, EPEC faculty, CMEs related to Palliative Care/End of Life Care, other). Upon Hire Required
- Minimum of 15 CME/1 year in Palliative Care. Upon Hire Required
