
Material Handler

Purpose
Support Supply Chain activity within the manufacturing/operational environment focusing on material handling activity & physical control of inventory
Duties and Responsibilities
Material Handling
Supports receiving area by unloading trucks as necessary
Cleaning and prep of raw materials for storage in warehouse as well as at the production lines
Confirming label accuracy of raw materials
Routes incoming shipments to inventory storage or recipient.
Physically picks and preps raw material from warehouse for delivery to work centers.
Physically retrieves and prepares material for return to the warehouse including count verification and proper packaging of material (palletization and/or stretch wrapping)
Executes SAP transfer orders to systematically mover material to and from work centers
Ensures FIFO flow of materials
Identifies materials at risk for shelf life expiration
Dumping of trash and recycling hoppers in the proper dumpsters and compactors
Weighing and recording scrap weights of recycled cable materials
Conducts routine and ad-hoc inventory cycle counts
Movement of WIP drums within facility
Maintains organization of outside reel storage area.
Prepares finished cable reels for shipment (steel or wood lagging)
Loads cable and miscellaneous shipments as necessary
General
Complies with plant safety procedures and actively engages to promote a safe working environment
Operates various material handling equipment (lift trucks, pallet jack, cart, hand truck, etc.) to move materials from shipping and receiving platform to storage or work area.
Promote, Support & implement continuous improvement activities within Supply Chain and Production to reduce bottlenecks and manufacturing throughput time.
Provides coverage for receiving clerk during their absence
Expected Results
Support achievement of Plant goals and targets while ensuring safety first in all efforts
Timely flow of material to productions lines to avoid interruption or delay of production activity
Maintain and promote SAP system
Support our Quality policy to ensure “Right the first time”
Required Skills and Qualifications
2-3 years experience in warehousing in a manufacturing setting
High school diploma or equivalent
Forklift experience required, and willingness to learn additional equipment
Must be able to handle physical heavy lifting up to 50 pounds
Position requires standing/walking 40%, operating material handing equipment 50%, & sitting at desk 10%
Must be able to work overtime (weekends, nights and holidays) as needed
Good computer systems knowledge including Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
Basic carpentry skills (tape measure, saws, nail gun, various hand tools)
Strong quality mindset
Desired Skills and Qualifications
Experience in the wire cable manufacturing industry
Ability to operate 45,000 Lb or larger capacity forklift
RCRA hazardous waste certified
Experience and understanding of 5S and Lean initiatives for manufacturing
Experience and understanding of problem Solving Skills such as 8D, 5 Why, Corrective Action
