
Communications Intern
AIAA, Reston, VA, United States
We're seeking a Communications Intern for spring/summer 2026 to help AIAA share stories that connect and inspire the aerospace community. You will support our Communications team by writing news content, drafting press materials, and creating engaging social media content while gaining hands‑on experience across digital platforms.
What you'll do
Write original stories for AIAA's daily news channel, From the Institute
Support internal communications projects for AIAA staff
Draft press releases in AP Style to share AIAA news with media
Create social content for LinkedIn, Instagram & YouTube (copy, graphics, reels)
Monitor and engage on social media (like, comment, and interact with the community)
Support social media campaigns for events, programs, and initiatives
Research trends, hashtags, and best practices to improve performance
Track analytics and turn data into insights and recommendations
Assist with video editing and short‑form content creation

What we're looking for
Junior or senior pursuing a bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Digital Media, or related field
Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills
Familiarity with LinkedIn, Instagram, and YouTube
Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast‑paced environment
Comfortable working independently and collaboratively
Portfolio or work samples required
Bonus: Experience with Canva, Adobe Suite, Sprout Social, or CapCut
Bonus: Interest in aerospace, aviation, or STEM
Details
Location: Reston, VA (must be based in the DMV area)
Schedule: ~20 hours/week
Reports to: Director of Communications & Social Media Manager
Compensation: $20/hour
