Position Summary
Perform routine maintenance, repair and cleaning of the City’s street system; operate and perform preventative maintenance on equipment and tools and learn to perform a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned areas of responsibility.
This is a Training and Certification Program position. This is a safety-sensitive position subject to random drug/alcohol testing.

Essential and Supplemental Functions
Perform general labor supporting the installation, replacement, maintenance, repair and cleaning of street structures, sidewalks, roadways, curbs and gutters.
Operate a variety of street maintenance equipment including tamper, jackhammer, portable pump, saw, air compressor and generator; perform routine preventive maintenance of equipment; inspect fluid levels to assure safe use and serviceability; may replace damaged or missing components.
Drive vehicles with trailer in tow to transport equipment, materials, and tools to and from a job site; load and unload dirt, debris, cold/hot mix and equipment at various job sites.
Remove dirt and debris from paved and unpaved streets to ensure safe operation of motor vehicles.
Perform crack‑sealing operations utilizing a hot tar applicator.
Control traffic using accepted and appropriate procedures to ensure the safety of the job site and to maintain smooth flow of traffic around the job site.
Utilize prescribed radio procedures to communicate with field and base to coordinate and complete assigned tasks.
Perform street maintenance activities in accordance with applicable standards and project specifications.
May be called for duty after normal working hours during an emergency or severe inclement weather to stabilize City streets, remove debris and dirt from paved, unpaved streets, City and other property as assigned.
Comply with construction codes, traffic safety rules and City ordinances in accomplishing assigned street construction, maintenance and repair tasks.
Adhere to safe work practices and procedures.
Supplemental Functions
Respond to public inquiries in a courteous manner; provide information within the area of assignment; resolve complaints in an efficient and timely manner.
Assist with snow removal and de‑icing of City streets as assigned.
Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
Minimum Education, Experience & Additional Requirements
High school diploma or GED.
One year of full‑time general construction experience preferred.
Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver’s License, or ability to obtain by date of hire.
Possession of a valid New Mexico Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A within six (6) months from date of hire.
Possession of a City Operator’s Permit (COP) within six (6) months from date of hire.
Working Conditions
Environmental:
Field and construction site environment; work around traffic and heavy construction and street maintenance equipment; exposure to noise, dust, fumes and inclement weather conditions. May be exposed to computer screens and classroom environment.
Physical:
Essential and supplemental functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for standing and walking for prolonged periods of time; moderate to heavy lifting and carrying; operating motorized equipment and vehicles.
