What To Expect
Tesla is seeking a Sr. Manufacturing Equipment Engineer to design and develop new equipment for energy products at massive scale. You will help deploy 100GW of solar manufacturing from raw materials on American soil before the end of 2028. Reporting to the Solar Energy Manufacturing Engineering Team, the Sr. Manufacturing Equipment Engineer is responsible for concept, design, build and ramp of custom automated manufacturing equipment. The selected candidate assumes full ownership of the tool including design, commissioning, process development and technical transfer of the tools to the operation team. The Sr. Manufacturing Equipment Engineer works closely within a cross‑functional organization and tool vendors to develop novel solar manufacturing equipment.
What You'll Do
Own projects through their entire lifecycle, from initial concept generation through assembly and production bring‑up
Prepare overall machine design concepts for custom designed, special purpose equipment and systems
Detail machine design of custom automated tooling, fixtures, mechanisms, robotic end‑of‑arm tooling
Selection and integration of commercial components, sensors, servos, pneumatic actuators, etc.
Conduct design reviews for internal team feedback and for cross‑functional presentations
Validate equipment performance and reliability. Create comprehensive equipment handover packages and system documentation
Define and oversee Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) and Site Acceptance Test (SAT) for Solar Energy manufacturing equipment
Optimize product flow and line efficiency by designing or improving tools, jigs, stations, work methods and ergonomics using 5S methodology
Characterize baseline performance and capability of each system and drive actions to maintain or improve performance as measured by product yield and tool availability
What You'll Bring
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience
Experience with automation equipment design and custom machine-building
5+ years of industry experience in similar field
Understanding of automation systems, mechanical engineering, robotics, PLCs, and data collection systems
Experience with various manufacturing processes (assembly, fastening, dispensing, laser welding, electrical testing)
Experience with SolidWorks CAD and PDM software
Strong hands‑on experience with high‑volume and pilot manufacturing
Working knowledge of data analysis, statistics, SPC
Able to travel 30% of the time, both domestically and internationally

Expected Compensation
$130,400 - $195,600/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
