Job Overview
The Payroll Tax Specialist is responsible for the comprehensive oversight of payroll tax functions within the organization. This role ensures compliance with local, state, and federal tax regulations, manages payroll tax reporting through an outsourced relationship with ADP, and handles audits and inquiries. The Payroll Tax Specialist works closely with the Accounting and HR departments, as well as various business units, to optimize tax processes and maintain accurate payroll tax data.
Responsibilities
Manage and oversee all payroll tax functions, including compliance with local, state, and federal tax laws and regulations.
Review payroll tax returns from ADP, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
Develop and implement policies and procedures to streamline payroll tax operations and ensure compliance.
Conduct regular audits of payroll tax data to identify discrepancies and implement corrective actions.
Respond to inquiries and resolve issues related to payroll taxes.
Collaborate with the Accounting and HR teams to ensure consistent and accurate payroll tax reporting.
Stay updated on current tax legislation and make recommendations for adjustments to payroll processes as needed.
Leverage data analytics and emerging AI‑enabled tools to enhance payroll tax accuracy, compliance monitoring, and process efficiency.
Assist in the preparation of reports for management and regulatory bodies.
Required Qualifications
Minimum of 5 years of experience in payroll tax management or a similar role.
Strong knowledge of payroll tax regulations and compliance requirements.
Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills.
Proficiency in payroll software and tax reporting systems, especially ADP GlobalView.
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation.
Experience with major payroll systems such as ADP, SAP, or Workday.
Working Conditions
The Payroll Tax Specialist typically works in an office environment. Some travel may be required for training and development or to coordinate with external agencies. This is a hybrid position requiring three days per week in the Ballantyne office.
