Graphic Design Instructor – Part‑Time Adjunct

Basic Function
Applicants are considered for a part‑time, hourly adjunct instructor position. Qualified candidates who meet the minimum qualifications will be contacted as teaching assignments become available across multiple campuses.
Representative Duties
Teach course assignments at Bakersfield Community College Main Campus, Delano Campus, Arvin (hub and high school), City Serve, Job Spot, McFarland (adult learning center and high school), Shafter (learning center and high school), Southwest Campus, and Wasco (adult education center and high school).
Teach at other campus sites, including day or evening classes, weekend classes, and large classes.
Deliver instruction via distance learning and multiple teaching methodologies.
Maintain subject‑matter currency.
Develop and revise curriculum.
Utilize computer and multimedia technology.
Participate collegially in departmental, college, and discipline‑specific professional activities.
Minimum Qualifications
Any bachelor's degree or higher and at least two years of professional experience.
OR any associate degree and at least six years of professional experience.
OR an equivalent combination of education and experience determined to be equal. Candidates who believe they possess equivalent qualifications must submit an application for equivalence.
Professional experience is required when a candidate holds a master’s degree; the experience must be directly related to the teaching assignment.
A demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
Degrees must be from accredited institutions; foreign degrees must be evaluated by a recognized credential‑evaluation service.
Knowledge and Abilities
Work effectively and harmoniously with colleagues in an environment that promotes innovation, teaching, learning, and service to a diverse student population.
Work effectively with students with a wide range of skills, motivations, academic, and vocational goals.
Develop curriculum, including curriculum delivered via different modalities.
Participate in recruitment and articulation activities with local schools, colleges, and universities.
Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Maintain subject‑matter currency.
Assess student learning outcomes.
Have knowledge of computers and be willing to explore new technologies that benefit the program.
Have knowledge of and commitment to the California community college mission.
