Arcadis is seeking a highly skilled and motivated
Assistant Resident Engineer
to support the
Gateway Hudson Tunnel Project (HTP) —one of the most iconic infrastructure initiatives in the United States. In this role you will assist with field supervision, compliance, documentation, quality assurance, and coordination to ensure successful delivery and adherence to all technical, regulatory, and contractual requirements.
Role Accountabilities
Field Supervision & Construction Oversight
Assist with site supervision and field management, supporting the oversight of all construction activities by the Project Contractor.
Ensure compliance with construction management plans, safety and security protocols, and project requirements.
Monitor and document daily construction activities, including safety, quality, and environmental compliance.
Participate in precondition surveys, mitigation planning, and resolution of punch‑list items.
Compliance & Environmental Management
Support the development and implementation of environmental monitoring and compliance programs.
Assist with NEPA evaluations, environmental control processes, hazardous materials tracking, and review of construction environmental control plans.
Help ensure compliance with Buy America, community engagement, and other regulatory requirements.
Project Controls & Documentation
Assist with project controls, including schedule management, cost estimating, and budget tracking.
Support the maintenance and continuous updating of construction documents, including drawings, specifications, and records of changes.
Help review and process contractor daily inspection reports, RFIs, submittals, and change orders.
Maintain systematic records and logbooks of project activities, materials, and other elements.
Quality Assurance & Testing
Support the implementation of quality management plans and conduct quality audits.
Verify contractor compliance with testing and inspection plans, coordinate materials testing, and manage quality documentation and reporting.
Assist with the review of quality documents and resolution of non‑conformances.
Coordination & Communication
Participate in meetings, technical briefings, and coordination sessions with project management, contractors, and stakeholders.
Assist with the preparation of technical presentations, reports, and meeting minutes.
Support interface management by integrating field activities with other project disciplines and reporting on interface status, issues, and resolutions.
Safety Management
Support the implementation of safety management plans and procedures.
Assist with the review and evaluation of contractor safety and security plans.
Help prepare and implement response plans for safety events and incidents.
Project Close‑out & Asset Management
Assist with package and contract close‑out, including punch‑list resolution, completion certificates, warranty tracking, and as‑built reviews.
Support asset maintenance planning and provide input on maintenance strategies as construction is completed.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, construction management, or a related field.
Minimum 3 years of experience in construction management, field engineering, or inspection on large‑scale infrastructure or transportation projects.
Key Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of construction methods, project controls, and quality assurance processes.
Familiarity with environmental compliance, safety management, and document control.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and basic project management software; experience with BIM or CAD is a plus.
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and communicate effectively with engineers, contractors, and stakeholders.
Willingness to work in the field and adapt to changing project needs.
Understanding of federal, state, and local codes, standards, and permitting processes is a plus.
Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
Proactive attitude, eagerness to learn, and ability to take initiative.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with federally funded projects and regulatory compliance is preferred.
Experience working on tunnel, rail, or major transportation infrastructure projects.
Salary and Benefits
The salary range for this position is $105,000 – $145,000. Actual salaries will vary and are based on several factors such as experience, education, budget, internal equity, project and location.
