Heavy Civil Construction Manager

Overview
We are seeking an experienced Construction Manager to lead the construction of heavy civil projects valued between $15 million to $300 million. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership and project management skills, and a proven track record of safety delivering high‑quality projects on time and within budget. The role requires the ability to collaborate with the project team to foster successful outcomes and requires construction expertise in heavy highway, mission‑critical and underground utility projects. Extended travel may be required based on project needs.

Position Description

Upholds and enforces corporate policies, procedures, and practices.

Establishes project‑specific strategic prioritization, objectives, schedules, policies, procedures and performance standards within corporate policy.

Monitors and controls construction operations through direction of field supervision, craftspeople and trade partners to ensure the project is built safely, with high quality, on schedule and within budget.

Reads and understands global project schedules created using critical path method (CPM).

Actively participates in the development of the baseline project schedule and subsequent schedule updates.

Provides routine schedule progress updates to maintain an accurate project schedule.

Proactively seeks opportunities to reduce schedule risk and improve execution.

Inspects in-progress work to ensure workmanship conforms to contract requirements and adherence to construction schedules.

Collaborates with and directs field personnel and subcontractors engaged in planning and executing work, interpreting plans and specifications, and coordinating various phases of construction to prevent schedule delays.

Monitors daily, weekly, and monthly project productivity and cost. Proactively seeks opportunities to mitigate risk and improve execution.

Completes regular performance and development reviews for employees under their direction in a timely manner.

Provides training and support for team members to enhance their skills.

Facilitates communication and collaboration internal and external to our organization.

Fosters a positive work environment and encourages teamwork.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Minimum 10 years of experience in heavy civil/highway construction and underground utilities.

At least 7 years of experience with mass excavation and earthmoving.

Strong ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical documents.

Strong mathematical skills (fractions, percentages, basic algebra, concrete volume calculations).

Experience handling customer inquiries and complaints.

Excellent written and oral communication skills in the English language.

Ability to work well under pressure while meeting stringent, and sometimes conflicting deadlines.
