Position Title:
Custodian II
Location:
Pittsburg and Brentwood campuses: 2700 East Leland Rd., Pittsburg, CA 94565 and 1351 Pioneer Square, Brentwood, CA 94513.
Job Summary:
Perform custodial work involving the care, maintenance, and cleaning of rooms, office space, buildings, and related facilities; and assist in maintaining the safety and security of district and college facilities.
Responsibilities
Sweep, mop, wax, buff, and polish floors; dust and polish furniture, woodwork, fixtures and equipment.
Wash windows, walkways, and walls and remove graffiti.
Clean and disinfect toilets, sinks, mirrors, hand plates, dispensers, fountains, glass doors and windows according to prescribed methods.
Stock paper in restrooms; fill soap dispensers.
Empty trash receptacles and wash them when soiled; reline receptacles with bags as needed.
Move and arrange furniture and equipment; may set up rooms for special meetings or classes.
Secure facilities at the end of work shift, including locking doors, windows and setting alarms.
Maintain and distribute supplies in custodial stations; load the truck and maintain supply inventory.
Maintain and operate floor maintenance equipment.
Clean and make minor repairs, including changing light bulbs and lamps.
Assist in training other custodial staff.
Dispose and remove hazardous waste material and e‑waste material when required.
Prepare work orders using a computer.
Maintain proper standards of cleanliness in assigned areas.
Perform related duties as assigned.
Experience & Training
One (1) year of experience performing custodial duties in a similar work environment.
Education / License
High school diploma (or GED) or equivalent. Valid California driver’s license or ability to obtain one.
Knowledge
Methods, materials and equipment used in cleaning buildings, office space and rooms.
Floor and carpet care, wall and fixture cleaning.
Disinfecting and sanitizing restrooms.
Safe work practices and safe operation of vehicles and equipment.
Use of personal protective equipment.
Minimum Qualification – Ability
Perform heavy physical labor, including lifting and moving items weighing up to 50 pounds.
Operate and maintain a variety of custodial power equipment.
Perform tasks independently and use sound judgment in the absence of supervision.
Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Identify chemicals and handle them appropriately.
Establish and maintain cooperative work relationships with all stakeholders.
Demonstrate sensitivity to diversity and respectful engagement with all students, faculty and staff.
Desirable Qualifications
Experience with restroom cleaning and sanitation.
Experience with daily floor cleaning and maintenance.
Experience with trash collection and removal.
Experience using and maintaining custodial equipment.
Experience performing top‑to‑bottom deep cleaning tasks.
