This position pays $16.50 per hour.
What do our Mosquito Technicians do?
The primary purpose of this role is to provide professional mosquito surveillance and control services for Franklin County residents. We deliver service with courtesy, safety, and dependability, with a focus on preventing the spread of diseases through mosquito control.
Responsibilities
Routinely inspect mosquito breeding habitats for larval presence and search for new potential breeding habitats
Assess each inspection site and utilize the appropriate control techniques, such as: no action, source reduction, public education, and appropriate larvicide (primarily bacterial-based products)
Place and retrieve monitoring devices for surveilling mosquito populations
May morphologically identify and count mosquito species using dissecting microscopes
Respond to mosquito complaints from residents by inspecting properties, treating habitats, and communicating directly with residents
Accurately record all findings and control activities on provided mobile tablets into VDCI’s database as required by the contract
Be thoroughly familiar with all applicable chemical labels and Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and handle/apply all chemicals according to label specifications
Know and follow proper safety and spill procedures at all times, and use all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) regularly
Communicate respectfully, honestly, and knowledgeably to residents during service request inspections, routine larvicide activities, or other public relations activities
Know and follow the proper and safe operations of all equipment used
React to change promptly and effectively, and perform other essential tasks as assigned
Solid reading, writing, and verbal communication skills and the ability to present information in internal and external settings
Essential Job Functions
Comfortable with self-directed working conditions after a training period
Work is outdoors and may involve exposure to weather conditions, uneven terrain, pesticides, dust and particulates, excessive noise, biting insects, hazardous plants, and wild or domestic animals
Must be capable of lifting and using items such as chemical containers and application equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
Safely operate a motor vehicle and ensure equipment is kept clean
Qualifications
Demonstrated attention to detail
Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills
Open to learning and acquiring knowledge in pest control and public health
High school diploma or GED; related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
Possess a valid driver’s license from state of residence
Basic math skills — addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division in all units of measure; ability to follow instructions for mixing on product labels
Customer-facing experience preferred
Compensation
Base Pay Range: Hourly $16.50 - $25.00. Total earnings may vary based on location, skills, education, experience, overtime, incentives, commissions, performance, and route assignment where applicable.
