Guardian Engineering Enterprises, LLC is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to join our team in either our Houston, TX, Chicago, IL, or Brooklyn, NY office.
This role offers a hybrid work schedule , blending in-office collaboration with remote flexibility.
The successful candidate will lead and execute electrical engineering design work focused on AI infrastructure, data centers, mission‑critical facilities, and power distribution systems.
A Professional Engineer (PE) license and 8+ years of relevant experience are required.
Primary Responsibilities
Lead comprehensive design and analysis of electrical power distribution systems for AI infrastructure and data centers, including high‑capacity switchgear, transformers, UPS systems, and backup generation for mission‑critical operations.
Conduct detailed electrical assessments of data center facilities, including load analysis, performance evaluations, power quality studies, and diagnostic testing such as thermal imaging.
Prepare detailed technical reports summarizing findings, performance assessments, recommendations, and cost estimates for infrastructure improvements and system upgrades.
Develop construction documents and specifications for electrical systems in alignment with NEC, IEEE, NFPA, NETA, and client requirements.
Design and specify power distribution equipment for high‑density computing environments, including medium‑voltage systems, emergency power, and monitoring infrastructure optimized for reliability and scalability.
Ensure compliance with all electrical codes, regulations, and safety standards throughout the project lifecycle while maintaining system reliability and operational continuity.
Contribute to value engineering efforts by analyzing design options, improving power efficiency, and aligning lifecycle costs with project goals.
Support procurement activities for electrical equipment and systems, including bid document preparation, addenda, and contractor coordination.
Review submittals and RFIs during construction to ensure compliance with design intent and safety standards.
Conduct field observations and QA inspections during construction phases; prepare progress reports and oversee commissioning activities.
Lead commissioning of power systems , including performance testing, protection coordination, and validation of design parameters for AI and mission‑critical environments.
Support client relationships through professional communication, mentor junior engineers, and manage estimates, schedules, and team collaboration for electrical projects.
Experience & Skill Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (Master’s preferred) with 8+ years of experience in power systems and data center electrical infrastructure.
Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
Proven expertise in design, assessment, and construction oversight of electrical power, distribution, and emergency systems for mission‑critical facilities.
Strong client‑facing communication skills with proficiency in SKM PowerTools, ETAP, AutoCAD Electrical, Revit MEP, and related tools.
Proficiency in data center electrical infrastructure including UPS systems, emergency power generation, and electrical monitoring for high‑density computing.
Knowledge of AI hardware electrical requirements (GPU/TPU clusters) and familiarity with standards such as ANSI/TIA‑942, Uptime Institute Tiers, and IEEE.
Expertise in electrical protection systems , power quality equipment, and redundant power configurations (N+1, 2N) for mission‑critical applications.
Advanced understanding of electrical power systems, utility interconnections, and energy‑efficient electrical design including medium‑voltage distribution.
Proven ability to solve complex engineering challenges and lead teams through design and decision‑making processes.
Ability to clearly communicate technical information to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
Experience leading multidisciplinary teams , mentoring engineers, and fostering collaborative work environments.
Excellent reporting, documentation, and presentation skills.
Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to meet tight deadlines while maintaining quality standards.
