CSCC is looking for a dynamic System Administrator II, Virtualization. This position is a high-level professional position responsible for virtual server and desktop environments. This position will perform technical activities related to supporting the CSCC virtualization environments which includes designing, implementing, maintaining, and troubleshooting the environments. This role may require limited project leadership duties and is the subject matter expert for their assigned systems.

Essential Job Functions
Systems Administration

Perform specialized duties involved in the planning, installation, configuration, operation, development, modification, maintenance, and repair of virtualized systems, software, and applications. Install and configure physical servers, including operating systems, software applications, and tools.

Design, build, operate, and maintain virtualization infrastructure in accordance with the College’s needs and recommended best practices.

Assure minimum service interruptions by analyzing performance, scalability and availability of resources. Develop strategies for, and complete performance tuning of, College mission‑critical virtualization systems.

Analyze, test, and troubleshoot assigned systems.

Maintain confidentiality of any information accessed, received, processed, or viewed within the College’s systems.

Serve on On‑Call/On‑Duty rotations for after‑hours support, 24/7 availability.

Support & Reporting

Provide Tier 3 troubleshooting and serve as an escalation point for any issues Tier 1 and Tier 2 support are unable to resolve.

Schedule system downtime with end users and technical staff members to facilitate hardware and software changes following CSCC change‑management procedures.

Document solutions and standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure services are delivered effectively and efficiently.

Ensure policies, procedures, rules, and regulations are being met and followed according to College practices.

Understand and document technical requirements for new services or service enhancements, advise on technological decisions, and provide service implementation estimates.

Support overall operations of assigned environments, ensuring they meet requirements and performance goals.

Identify reusable/pre‑configured service components or standard products from the market to leverage and assemble the service/solution.

Work closely with stakeholders to ensure implementation meets design requirements.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

Attend all required department meetings and training.

Maintain regular, predictable, and punctual attendance.

Minimum Experience and Education Required

High School Diploma or Equivalency.

At least three (3) years of progressively responsible technical experience managing virtualization environments.

Appropriate combination of education, training, coursework, and experience may qualify a candidate.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of: server and desktop virtualization using VMware vSphere, VMware Horizon, and Microsoft Hyper‑V; enterprise SAN systems; networking as it relates to virtualization; server hardware monitoring and troubleshooting; Business Continuity & Disaster Recovery; server and desktop operating systems and management; system monitoring and logging.

Skilled in: verbal and written communication; operating job equipment; planning, scheduling, and organizing work; general typing; application of job software programs; application of technical skills in area of specialization.

Ability to: think creatively and exploit opportunities; simplify and synthesize complex situations with consideration to all elements; work independently and demonstrate initiative; develop and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders across the College; analyze technical problems, troubleshoot, and draw appropriate conclusions; perform light manual labor for extended periods; maintain confidential and sensitive information; keep accurate and complete work records; coordinate multiple activities and tasks; exhibit flexibility in work schedule and job tasks; apply technical and analytical applications.

Hybrid opportunity in Columbus, OH.

Required to serve on On‑Call/On‑Duty & On‑Site if required.
