Position Overview
The Special Education Instructional Aide works collaboratively with classroom teachers and school staff to provide targeted academic and behavioral support to students with diverse learning needs. This individual helps implement accommodations, fosters student independence, and contributes to a structured, supportive learning environment.
Student Support
Provide small group and one-on-one academic support to students with ILPs or Accommodation Plans
Assist students in accessing classroom instruction and completing assigned work
Support the implementation of accommodations and modifications as directed by teachers or support staff
Help students develop organization, focus, and self-advocacy skills
Assessment & Testing Support
Administer assessments in a quiet or alternate setting as needed
Ensure testing accommodations are implemented accurately and consistently
Maintain a calm, structured environment during testing situations
Work closely with classroom teachers to support student learning and behavior
Assist with classroom routines, transitions, and supervision as needed
Communicate effectively with teachers regarding student progress and needs
Foster a respectful, patient, and encouraging environment
Support students’ social and emotional development
Help maintain a safe, structured, and inclusive classroom setting
Catholic Identity
Model Christian values, including patience, compassion, and respect for the dignity of each student
Support the school’s mission by promoting a caring and inclusive community
Qualifications
The candidate should:
Have experience working with children, preferably in an educational or special education setting
Demonstrate patience, flexibility, and a nurturing demeanor
Be attentive to individual student needs and learning differences
Communicate effectively and work collaboratively with teachers and staff
Maintain confidentiality and professionalism
Show a willingness to learn and grow in supporting students with diverse needs
Support the Catholic mission and values of the school
Education & Experience
High school diploma required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in education or related field preferred
Prior experience working with children with special needs strongly preferred
Compliance with all Archdiocesan child protection training and procedures
