Bon Secours Mercy Health is seeking an experienced Cardiac Surgical Nurse Practitioner for locum tenens coverage at Springfield Regional Medical Center. This role supports Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery services and includes OR call and ICU/CVICU call responsibilities. Providers with strong cardiac surgery or high-acuity critical care experience are encouraged to apply.

Current Open Coverage Blocks

• April 6, 2026 at 7:00 AM April 13, 2026 at 7:00 AM
• April 20, 2026 at 7:00 AM June 1, 2026 at 7:00 AM

Shift Description

• days per month
• Coverage begins Friday afternoon
• Continues through the following full week and weekend
• Ends either:
  • Sunday evening, or
  • Monday morning

️ Scheduling Flexibility

• If local, providers may cover:
  • A 3-day coverage span, or
  • A 10-day consecutive stretch
• 10-day coverage blocks will consist of:
  • OR call OR ICU call only (not both during the same block)
• Day shift on-site presence is required for:
  • OR cases or
  • ICU/CVICU coverage
• Call typically begins at 3:00 PM
  • Some services may still operate at 3:30 PM, though the standard is transitioning to 3:00 PM

Practice Details

• Reports To: Cardiothoracic & Vascular Surgeons
• Practice Setting: Hospital-based (OR + ICU/CVICU)
• Average Patient Volume: 5 20 patients/day
• Patient Population: Adult & Geriatric
• EMR: Epic

Clinical Background

• Preferred: Cardiothoracic & Vascular Surgery experience
• Will Consider: Experienced Critical Care NPs
• Not Accepted: New graduates

Surgical Nurse Practitioner candidates will be considered

️ Required Duties & Procedures

• OR call and ICU/CVICU call coverage
• Patient rounding and post-operative management
• Coordination of care with surgical and ICU teams
• Interpret diagnostic tests
• Order labs and imaging
• Write prescriptions
• Vein harvesting (required)

Not required:

• Assisting directly in surgery
• Retrieval of vascular tissue for bypass conduit

EVH Device Information

• Facility uses both Terumo and Maquet/Getinge EVH devices
• Providers may choose their preferred system

Candidate Requirements

• Active Nurse Practitioner license
• Significant experience in Cardiac Surgery, CVICU, or Critical Care
• Comfortable managing high-acuity cardiac patients independently
• Strong clinical judgment and collaboration skills

• Temporary privileges: Potentially available in 45 days
